I hurriedly opened the door and spoke to Jerin.

“Please show him in. Oh, and could you bring over some of my old belongings from the Brelrop estate?”

“Yes, is there anything specific you need?”

I glanced sideways at Askan, who was still standing stiffly in that spot, then tilted my head toward Jerin.

Even though those were just old documents, I’d obtained them by whipping Askan. Feeling vaguely guilty about it, I whispered in a small voice.

“You know the place where I used to keep my whip, right?”

At my question, Jerin’s eyes widened slightly and quivered. Before she could misunderstand something, I quickly continued.

“You’ll find my old notebooks and various other items there. Just bring everything back to the lab for me.”

“Oh, all right, Miss.”

Relief briefly flickered across Jerin’s face, which had been tense just moments before.

Though I’d never lifted a whip since taking over this body, that didn’t erase Tanasia’s past atrocities.

It was bitter to realize I was still a figure of fear among the staff, but since lengthy explanations wouldn’t change anything, I kept it brief.

“I’m counting on you.”

Jerin nodded firmly at my words.
