After helping Askan escape, I deliberately didn’t call for him, worried that Ollande or Zen might find it suspicious.

Even though I knew it was unnecessary worry, I still wanted to avoid drawing any unwanted attention.

After sending Barnen and Matella away—both of whom had suddenly shown up—the time had already come for dinner.

‘Father said he’d let last night’s incident go, so I suppose I can finally relax a little.’

Ollande wasn’t the type to say one thing and do another; his personal creed was that trustworthiness mattered above all else.

Since I hadn’t been able to eat with Askan all day, I decided I’d share dinner with him tonight and finish the conversation we’d left hanging from last night.

As usual, I had two portions of food prepared in my room and called for Askan.

Eating together with him wasn’t anything new, so to Jerin and everyone else, it probably just looked like another ordinary day.

Knock knock—soon after, a soft knock came from the door, followed by Askan’s low voice outside.

“It’s me.”

“Come in.”

At my permission, Askan entered the room.

His face was as expressionless as ever, his clothes neat and his movements restrained—but if you looked closely, something felt different.

Dark circles under his eyes suggested he hadn’t slept well last night.
