Erina tightened her grip on her handbag to keep from trembling under Sander’s gaze, which had softened slightly since before.
“I propose a deal with you, Marquess.”
“A deal?”
True to his family’s role overseeing all imperial trading houses, Sander reacted differently at the word “deal.”
“From the Countess of House Iols, reputed to be the weakest among them?”
“Yes.”
Erina nodded calmly despite Sander’s sarcasm, a response so unfamiliar to him.
Her blank expression, concealing slight unease, intrigued Sander strangely.
Releasing the hand propping his chin, Sander sat upright and asked again.
“What’s the deal?”
“I’ll tell you once you accept it.”
“Now, madam. Do you not understand the basics of a deal?”
Though Sander alternated between formal and informal speech—a tone that ought to have irritated—Erina didn’t flinch.
“But I can clearly tell you the definite outcome of this deal.”
Settling onto the sofa, Erina placed her handbag on her knees and continued.
“The fall of House Iols.”
A glint sparked in Sander’s eyes.
For someone bearing the Iols name and enjoying everything it granted to speak of its downfall herself—
From Sander’s perspective, it was an irresistibly sweet bait.
So tempting he simply couldn’t walk away.
“Ha, very well. I accept your deal.”
At Sander’s acceptance, Erina nudged open her handbag.
Meeting his burning, fiercely bright gaze head-on, she pulled out a mana stone and set it on the table.
Sander’s expression—once certain nothing could ever shatter it—cracked at the sight of the pale violet mana stone.
“This is…”
“I’ve discovered a mana stone mine.”
Sander lifted the stone carefully, as if entranced.
Inside the mana stone, glowing from its own magical energy, was engraved ‘Erina Medelia.’
“Erina Medelia.”
“Yes. Not Erina Iols, but Erina Medelia is its owner. What do you say?”
Sander’s mind whirled ceaselessly with thoughts.
No matter how he reasoned or planned, only overwhelmingly favorable conclusions emerged.
Even if every other aspect of this deal disadvantaged him, this alone made it impossible to refuse.
The benefits of monopolizing mana stone distribution were immense enough to outweigh every drawback.
Erina knew Sander couldn’t refuse once he saw the mana stone.
A mana stone capable of activating dormant artifacts would make its distributor the undisputed authority among nobles merely by existing.
