“What did you say? Say it again! Again!”

Gillian let out a weary sigh, his eyes tired.

“Let’s go sit down first. My legs ache from being stuck in that cramped dungeon cell without moving for so long. You all were utterly inhuman—didn’t even let me take a single walk. Stuck in such a confined space, one feels like they’ll go mad. Yet I managed to keep my sanity, thanks to the promise you made me.”

Gillian leaned back against a plush sofa in the hall.

“I can’t even remember the last time I sat on such a soft sofa.”

“Get to the point. Explain clearly what you meant by ‘disappearing once I achieve what I want’!”

“When I finally claimed the throne I desired—when I fulfilled my wish—the joy and euphoria were indescribable. But then… they vanished. Isn’t that just absurd?”

“On what grounds?”

Sikar felt exhaustion rush over him and ran a hand through his hair.

“Don’t dodge the issue. Just tell me why the dark-eyed people disappeared.”

“You’re as impatient as ever. Anyway, the first person I captured kept pleading to be released. But releasing them easily wasn’t an option, obviously. So I kept them locked up for quite a while before finally setting them free. The moment I did, they vanished—as if teleporting. At first, I didn’t think much of it. But when the second captive also disappeared upon release, I started to suspect: they vanish when their request is granted. So with the third one, I gave them just enough food to keep them from starving. They said their only wish was a proper meal—so I gave it to them, and they vanished.”
