Early morning, fresh sunlight poured through the window. In Duke Bellarus’s study, Akia and Dmitri sat facing each other.

Akia had come straight to see Dmitri after finishing breakfast. The fact that he’d been summoned so urgently surely meant there was a specific reason.

Duke Bellarus’s shrewd gaze settled on Akia, as if trying to pry into his thoughts through his eyes.

“Well then. What could possibly bring a duke to me so early in the morning?”

Dmitri asked, sipping steaming hot black tea. He’d just finished breakfast and had been considering inviting Leah for tea in the garden.

He was deeply disappointed that Akia’s unexpected visit had ruined his perfect timing.

“I heard you asked Leah to stay here longer.”

“That’s right. My daughter’s birthday is coming up, and it’s lonely celebrating alone. I asked her to stay a few more days—does that pose a problem for you?”

At Duke Bellarus’s shamelessly bold look, Akia’s eyebrows twitched. Leah clearly belonged to him, yet Dmitri was trying to pull her into his own sphere.

‘What on earth is he thinking?’

Dmitri’s cunning eyes revealed no emotion whatsoever. Finally, Akia gave up this futile probing and asked bluntly.

“If you’re treating Leah kindly because you harbor ‘certain’ feelings for her, I suggest you abandon that notion. Wouldn’t it be better for you to enjoy a peaceful retirement?”

Akia’s eyes gleamed sharply.

He’d thought the young prince was still naive, but seeing him now meet his gaze directly, Duke Bellarus stroked his chin thoughtfully.

‘How intriguing. So Leah truly is special to him.’
