Song Yeon was Yang Hoon’s and Tae Beom’s junior in college.

“Five years ago, I happened to hear that Senior Tae Beom had come to New York, so I went to see him right away. I was in New York at the time, after all.”

Song Yeon casually introduced herself during a brief tea time with Hye Won.

The real secretary who had been by his side for a long time. Hye Won nodded.

“Senior Tae Beom—ah, that word ‘senior’ keeps slipping out. Sorry. I still can’t get used to calling you ‘Managing Director.'”

“Please speak however feels comfortable. It’s fine.”

“Really? Then bear with me for now. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when Senior Tae Beom suddenly returned to Korea. I wanted to go back together, but he left so abruptly—it was like roasting beans in a lightning flash—and I ended up all alone.”

Her voice brimmed with confidence. Her pace of speech and facial expressions radiated strong self-assurance.

She was the kind of person who could talk about herself on equal footing with anyone. That was Song Yeon’s first impression.

“I was grinding my teeth, thinking, ‘Let’s see how well you’re doing after leaving me behind,’ when I got a call from Senior Yang Hoon. Like I’d miss a chance like this—I pushed myself and came to Korea right away.”

Song Yeon ended her story with a refreshing laugh. For some reason, Hye Won couldn’t join in the laughter and merely offered a faint smile.

In moments like this, she instinctively shrank back—when meeting someone whose fundamental difference she could feel in her skin, not someone competing through accomplishments, but through sheer essence.

Unlike herself, who had so much to hide and nothing to show, Song Yeon approached everything with genuine enthusiasm—not forced passion, but a natural attitude stemming from a healthy outlook on life.

Her unapologetic confidence, the kind that had never needed to read others’ cues, her belief that she wouldn’t easily be disliked, and her strong conviction that she alone was the protagonist of her own life—all of it made Song Yeon seem to glow.

Even setting aside her pretty face, she was undeniably a beautiful person.
