The child, as if mocking the narrow-mindedness of adults, offered a wise alternative, and even the Reconstruction Committee accepted it.

And finally, the day came for Jane and Joseph to leave the capital. She packed a simple bag and headed to the train station.

At the station stood Lloyd, Cedric, and the entire Somnium House family.

The Somnium House members had moved to a place Cain had prepared before the revolution, and after things settled down, they had just returned to the capital upon Lloyd’s invitation.

They had been working as employees of Hayes & Co., waiting for Cain’s return.

“Why have you all come all this way?”

Jane looked around at the people surrounding her.

She wasn’t setting off to do anything grand—merely relocating her home—and yet they gave her an overly lavish farewell.

“We must bid you farewell properly. Please travel safely, young master.”

Norbert removed his hat and bowed courteously. Mary turned away and dabbed at her eyes with her sleeve.

Joseph hesitated as he looked at them. When Jane gently nudged his back, he faltered, then walked over to Norbert and Mary and opened his arms.

The elderly pair, overwhelmed with emotion, tightly embraced Joseph and burst into tears.

“When you get old, you just… sob… can’t stop crying.”

Jane’s nose stung as she looked up at the sky.
