There was warmth in the living room, where darkness and silence should have settled. Along with it, a small, precious pair of sneakers.

Those shoes filled Taeseok’s eyes with life. His footsteps and heartbeat quickened in direct proportion.

She had come to me—the one who would perfectly complete my day.

“Where are you, Choi Bunny?”

His impatient hands opened doors one by one—living room, study, bedroom, dining table, even Yeoreum’s room. He wanted to touch her solid, tangible body as soon as possible, afraid she might vanish like smoke, just as in the dreams he still occasionally had.

She was in the last room he opened.

“Ha.”

It was the shabby storage room he’d hastily cleaned up to serve as a workspace—a place born of twisted intentions, where he’d half tormented her and half just wanted to watch over her, forcing her to stay seated there.

She opened her eyes at the sound of his presence, half-asleep on a slant.

I should get rid of this room, Taeseok thought, frowning. This space was nothing but a product of jagged selfishness and conflicted affection, yet of all the spacious rooms in this house, Yeoreum still seemed most at ease here. It ached his heart.

But the moment his eyes met hers, he wiped the thought clean away and smiled brightly.

Without a word, he spread his arms wide, and Yeoreum rose, smiling as she approached. He wrapped her in his embrace, yearning to feel the warmth of her heart fluttering like a tiny bird.

“I want to be sweet, but you have to be punished today.”

Taeseok said in a deliberately angry voice. Yeoreum lifted her head in confusion. His reflection filled her clear eyes entirely. He suppressed the surge of emotion welling up inside and spoke seriously.

“If it was uncomfortable, you should’ve just cleared away the coffee cart.”
