Worried that taking her to an expensive place might make even that feel burdensome, I suggested it as casually as possible, but she rejected it without leaving any room for discussion. Instead, whenever she got the chance, the woman would say, “Shall I buy that for you?”

To anyone watching, it looked like a simple, innocent girl had fallen for the sweet talk of a flashy but penniless unemployed guy who acted like he could buy anything she asked for, making Ji Wan shake his head over and over again.

“Wait here. I’ll go check why all those people are gathered over there.”

Even while walking side by side, the moment she spotted a crowd a little distance away, she’d be the first to run over and peek.

Her exaggerated, chattering excitement was nice to listen to as well.

“Are you… hungry?”

Ji Wan grabbed Do Um—who couldn’t stay still for a second and looked ready to dash off somewhere again—and asked.

“Huh, now that you mention it. I was wondering why my stomach has been acting up for a while. Yeah, I’m hungry.”

That dazed smile, as if she’d been so absorbed in something that she forgot the most important thing, was beautiful too.
