Even though Cryer’s sudden, contextless remark hung in the air, Olivia understood exactly what he meant.

It was because he had gripped her just above the collarbone with enough force to crush it.

“It originally bore the mark on him, but it changed when Sugar was born.”

Meeting his deep-set, crimson eyes as they sank further into shadow, Olivia immediately rose to her feet.

Though her foot was still wrapped in bandages, she paid it no mind and rose onto her tiptoes, placing her hand over his, where dark veins stood out.

“Yes. You said the mark moved from the elder brother to the younger.”

As she spoke, she gently and slowly guided his hand downward without force.

The moment her hand touched his, his grip slackened abruptly, his hand obediently following her warmth downward—until it instinctively closed around that warmth itself.

When the icy tension that had crackled around Cryer finally eased after he held her hand for a while, Olivia slipped her hand free and tapped her temple lightly before speaking.

“There’s more than just the mark—I have another question.”

A flicker of flame sparked in Olivia’s blue eyes as she lightly ran her tongue over her lower lip.
