Joo Hee, wearing her hat pulled low, took a shopping bag from the back seat of the car. She headed toward the elevator while calling her friend.

“Na Kyung, I just arrived—where should I go? The 5th floor? Oh, got it. I’ll be right up.”

After the brief call, Joo Hee pressed the elevator button. As the elevator, which had been stopped on the 6th floor, began slowly descending, she glanced at the floor directory on the wall.

Aside from a private coffee shop on the first floor, it seemed the entire building was used by the hospital. The second floor housed testing labs, the third was obstetrics and gynecology, the fourth was inpatient rooms, and both the fifth and sixth floors were postpartum care centers.

“Do they lease the entire building for this?”

The building stood on prime real estate in Cheongdam-dong. Feeling a vague sense of relative deprivation, Joo Hee pouted slightly as she stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the 5th floor.

“Na Kyung’s really made it. Getting postpartum care in such a nice place.”

The elevator doors closed, and it began rising against gravity.

A sigh escaped Joo Hee’s lips. Lately, she’d felt as if a heavy metal ball were tied to her ankle, dragging her endlessly into dark, deep waters.

Or maybe what truly weighed on her heart was comparing herself to others.

The elevator arrived at the 5th floor and opened with a clear chime. Joo Hee hesitated awkwardly in front of the postpartum care center.

Some of her peers had married early, but Na Kyung was the only one who’d had a child. So this was actually her first time visiting a postpartum care center.

“Do I just walk in and say Na Kyung’s name?”
