“Who’s there!”

Geddis shouted toward the baron, who stood dazedly staring at the empty corridor outside the hallway.

“No one, there’s no one.”

Baron Gart, unsure how to respond, finally answered only that.

There was absolutely no place in the corridor to hide.

He was certain he’d seen a shadowy figure moving about until the moment he parted these thin curtains. No—hadn’t their eyes even met? Yet now, there was no one, absolutely no one, in that spot.

Their position had been too dark to see clearly into the corridor due to the lighting. Yet Duke Kuran had clearly sensed something, and he himself had also noticed their presence.

As he drew near the corridor, he’d even glimpsed glittering jewels embedded in their clothing and startled blue eyes.

Yet when he parted the curtain—no one was there.

The corridor showed no trace of anyone—not even a hint of human presence—as if he’d merely imagined it.

“Someone was definitely there.”

Geddis called out to his subordinate, who stood staring blankly down the corridor with a dazed expression.

“Baron Gart, whom did you see?”

Gart turned back toward Duke Kuran with a vacant look and replied,

“I couldn’t see the face clearly. I only saw a green dress shimmering with jewels.”
