Hazen opened the front door after giving Tien a look to follow Ruela, who was entering the dining room.

Just then, Balder Gilma was dismounting from his horse along with three of his subordinates. As Balder stepped forward, Hazen blocked his path and asked,

“What business brings you here?”

“I’ve come to find Ruela Romnin.”

“Why are you looking for Ruela?”

At Hazen’s question, Balder burst out angrily.

“She came saying she’d meet me, then ran off! I’ve always known she’s willful, but this time I simply can’t tolerate it.”

“If someone changes their mind after deciding to meet you, isn’t it natural they’d leave? Don’t you allow even that much freedom here?”

Stammering for a reply, Balder hesitated briefly before shouting again.

“Regardless, I must at least state my purpose for coming. Tell her to come out.”

Hazen replied gently with a kind smile.

“Ruela hasn’t returned yet.”

“Don’t lie to me. I scanned the entire area thoroughly on my way here and didn’t see Ruela. That means she must already be here.”

“I never imagined you’d be so suspicious. Would you like to come inside and look for yourself?”
