“A happy ending… Do you really think so?”

“What do you mean?”

“Don’t forget that Ruela Romnin here died once. If it weren’t for Senhui, and if I weren’t close to the Emperor of Elab, you wouldn’t be sitting here facing me right now.”

So he was close to the Emperor of Elab—that was news to her.

The man’s gaze was as cold as his solemn tone. Ruela, who had been sitting comfortably on the sofa with her legs crossed, lowered her legs and straightened up to ask,

“So you’re saying I might die again?”

“Nothing is certain. But even though the story you know seems very similar to the current situation here, considering that this Ruela Romnin actually died once and her relationship with Balder Gilma, it’s far too naive to assume it’ll end happily.”

“But thanks to you all, I’m alive now, and I absolutely won’t try to kill myself. The only danger I face right now is Balder Gilma’s hostile declaration—and that’s probably just him trying to harass me. Isn’t it stranger that he’d want to kill me just for a little infidelity?”

“Balder Gilma is the son of the King of Kuran. Though in practice, the Duke of Kuran rules the kingdom, Balder will become king unless something drastic happens. He’s lived his whole life without ever failing to get what he wants. Yet Ruela Romnin made a fool of him. So he’ll never forgive you.”

According to the original game’s story, the Duke of Kuran was the one who rebelled and freed Kuran from Helane. But why he didn’t take the throne himself and instead passed it to his younger brother remained unclear, as the story was still unfolding bit by bit.

Perhaps that part would be revealed in the next update. So far, the story had progressed to the point where an expedition from Helane, aiming to reclaim Kuran—its former territory—was about to begin their journey to kill the Duke of Kuran.

Curious about what came next, Ruela asked Kite,

“Do you know why the Duke of Kuran handed the throne to his younger brother?”

Kite shook his head.

“Nothing has been revealed publicly.”

“So even here, it’s still unknown. Anyway, that means Balder is effectively this country’s crown prince, right?”

“He hasn’t been officially appointed. But his power is stronger than my father’s—he controls all the guilds in the kingdom. That’s why it’s dangerous. Especially since you even tried to dismantle one of the guilds under his command.”

“What’s the big deal about losing one measly guild? Can’t they just make another one? If only those who obey Balder can run guilds here anyway, couldn’t they just appoint anyone?”

Kite shook his head as if to say no.

“It’s not about difficulty. Like I said earlier, he wants revenge for being made a fool of.”

“How petty… Oh, right! I’m supposedly a rare healer, born once in a generation. Would he still try to kill me even knowing that?”

“If he doesn’t know you’re a healer, his goal would be to subdue you rather than kill you. But if he finds out you’re a healer…”

“If he finds out?”

“He’ll send an assassin to kill you immediately.”

He said it firmly, his eyes darkening, as if there were no other possibility.

His tone was so resolute that she didn’t suspect he was lying. Still, her doubts didn’t fade, so Ruela countered,

“Why? I’m valuable, aren’t I? Wouldn’t it make more sense to recruit me rather than kill me?”

“Would you really let yourself be recruited?”

“Isn’t that better than dying?”

“If you don’t mind being used, that’s your choice. But what can a mere healer accomplish in Kuran, where there are no other ability users?”

“Healing?”

“Do you think Balder would care about healing and saving others as long as he himself doesn’t die? Besides, you’re only level 1—you’re not even usable as a proper healer yet.”

“Maybe someday I’ll level up and become useful.”

Kite gave a cold laugh.

“If you become useful to them, do you think we’d just sit back and watch? Even if I pretended not to notice, Senhui would come himself to erase your soul if you helped the Kuran royal family, who command monsters.”

“Then… if I absolutely refuse to be recruited?”

“Then you’d be completely useless to Balder’s side. No—in fact, the moment they realize you’re helping us, they’ll do everything they can to kill you.”

“So either way, I end up dead.”

Ruela, thoroughly annoyed, muttered to herself before tilting her head and asking,

“But you said there are no ability users in Kuran?”

“That’s right. None. The ability to wield magic only manifests in those who carry the blood of the royal families of Helane and Elab, or the ducal house of the Leor Principality.”

She couldn’t understand. Did that mean Ruela herself carried royal blood? And if the game started in the Kingdom of Kuran, how could there be no ability users here?

This world wasn’t the same as the original game—it was reality, so it couldn’t be identical. But even so, such drastic differences seemed strange.

“Why? Isn’t this world the same as the game I mentioned?”

“The power of ability users is proof of the ‘Divine Bloodline,’ passed down only to direct descendants of Helane, Elab, and Leor—the creator gods. Among them, those born with the ability to wield magic are extremely rare.”

“Extremely rare?”

“Yes. Ability users represent the highest nobility and are proof of direct descent from the gods. Especially in Helane, unlike Elab, frequent rebellions and wars have further reduced the number of those with the ‘Divine Bloodline.’ Most ability users currently in Helane actually came from Elab.”

“I thought the Kingdom of Kuran was originally the Duke of Kuran’s territory under Helane. Does that mean there isn’t a single direct descendant of the gods here—not even the Duke of Kuran?”

Kite nodded at Ruela’s question.

“The title of Duke of Kuran was indeed granted to a direct descendant of the gods during the early days of the Helane Kingdom. But over countless years, the main line died out, and a collateral branch inherited it, making it impossible for anyone with the Divine Bloodline to be born.”

Kite added with a bitter expression,

“That’s why Kuran’s loyalty became weaker than any other lord’s.”

“Yes, I know. That’s why they rebelled, broke away from Helane, and founded their own kingdom.”

“Exactly.”

Ruela tilted her head, puzzled.

“But Helane has ability users—so why did they lose their territory so easily?”

Kite began to explain in response to Ruela’s question.

According to him, shortly after the rebellion, monsters suddenly appeared along the borders of the Kuran territory—now the Kingdom of Kuran.

For Helane to reclaim Kuran, they’d have to break through the monsters’ barrier—but ordinary people, lacking abilities, couldn’t even set foot in monster-infested lands without dissolving instantly.

After hearing Kite’s explanation, Ruela asked,

“So the reason you’re trying to establish a guild here is to hunt down those monsters?”

“No. Since only ability users can even approach the monsters, that’s not the reason.”

“Then why exactly are you trying to establish a guild here?”

“We’re suspicious about the sudden appearance of these monsters.”

“So you came here to investigate? Is that really all?”

“Of course, that’s not all. But to achieve our goal, we first need to find a way for ordinary people to stand against monsters, so we must figure that out.”

“If it’s not for hunting monsters, is it really necessary to form a guild?”

“We plan to reside in Kuran and gather information about the monsters, but unlike other countries, everyone here belongs to a guild.”

“Everyone belongs to a guild? Why on earth is that?”

Seeing Ruela’s utterly baffled expression, Kite gave a faint smile.

“To keep watch over each other. Merchants join the Merchant Guild, hunters join the Hunter Guild, nobles join the Noble Guild—everyone joins a guild suited to their background and profession, and some even join two or three.”

“So even if it’s mandatory, joining more must be advantageous, right?”

“Because each guild shares information only within itself. You must join at least one by default, but they’ve designed it so you’re encouraged to join multiple guilds to gain more connections and benefits. Membership is absolutely advantageous.”

“So you’re saying if I hadn’t come to join a guild, I really would’ve struggled to survive.”

Back when she knew nothing, she’d been rather carefree—even though Balder’s guild had issued a hostile declaration, she’d thought, “Surely nothing too serious would happen.” But now it was clear that going it alone would be quite difficult.

Especially since all guilds were under Balder’s control, and every citizen was required to join them without exception.

“Do you finally grasp the situation now?”

Ruela nodded obediently and looked him straight in the eye.

“Yes. I clearly understand my situation now. But I have one last question. You said it’s possible to form a guild to oppose Balder Gilma. How is that possible?”

“The Kingdom of Kuran has opened its ports to Elab and plans to open its borders to other kingdoms within a few days.”

She’d also heard about the opening from the bakery owner earlier. She’d thought it odd but had been too distracted to dwell on it.

“I heard something about it earlier. So it was closed off until now?”

“Yes. Kuran has only allowed foreigners in for a week.”

“A week? That’s around the same time I entered Ruela Romnin’s body! Why does everything feel like it’s following a perfectly scripted plot?”

Just as she furrowed her brow, uneasy, she noticed the quest list on her game screen blinking.

“Hold on a moment.”

When she clicked it, a system window opened.

[Unclaimed Quest Rewards:

Information Bulletin Board Discovered (Completed)]

The quest had been marked complete, but she’d been so anxious about her portrait and people’s stares that she’d hastily fled the spot and forgotten to claim the reward.

To stop the annoying blinking, she quickly clicked to claim it.

Her experience bar rose, and she reached level 2. As soon as she leveled up, Ruela clicked the newly appeared blinking icon in the top-right corner.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
