The Man Who Shakes Me (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
The barbecue restaurant we often go to for company dinners was already packed with people who’d arrived ahead of us. Filled with hazy smoke, the place buzzed with boisterous noise.
Ji Na and Ji Hye deliberately sat at the very end—far away from Director Jung and Do Jin.
“Since things have turned out like this, I’m going all out with company money.”
At Ji Hye’s determined declaration, delivered with a solemn expression, Intern Jo chuckled softly.
“Associate Lee, you seem way too entertaining.”
“Me?”
Ji Hye asked incredulously, eyes wide, and Intern Jo quickly shook her head.
“It’s not like I’m normally this kind of person.”
Her attempt to sound genuinely serious while looking bitter was so funny that she covered her mouth and giggled quietly.
“Hey now, today’s stars of the show—eat up!”
Director Jung, seated at the head of the table, boomed cheerfully.
“I’m feeding you so you’ll work hard.”
All eyes instantly turned toward the interns—and by extension, toward Ji Na sitting right next to them.
“Yes.”
When Jin Woo lifted the corners of his mouth in a smile, Director Jung let out a satisfied laugh.
“Intern Seo Jin Woo, I’m counting on you.”
Director Jung’s exaggeratedly deferential manner was almost comical.
Why’s he acting like that all of a sudden? Ji Hye, equally startled, shot Ji Na a look that clearly meant “Ugh, Director Jung.”
“Well, anyway—let’s stuff ourselves with beef tonight and work even harder in marketing to skyrocket sales.”
Separate from Director Jung, Do Jin sat beside him, and across the table sat Heo Staff. Seeing Heo Yoon Joo flash Do Jin a bright, flirtatious smile made Ji Na uneasy.
Soon, a grill was placed on Ji Na’s table. The raw meat atop it sizzled appetizingly, its rich red hue turning deliciously brown.
As the meat cooked, everyone’s chopsticks moved faster. Ji Na, however, kept downing soju shot after shot instead of eating.
“Oh my, did you come here just to drink? Associate Lee?”
Ji Hye, sitting beside her, sounded surprised—but Ji Na didn’t hear her. One shot, then another—sharp, burning liquor slid down her throat. She liked the bitterness, as if it could scorch away the tangled mess inside her.
“Eat some meat already.”
Ji Hye, chewing meat herself, clicked her tongue and moved Ji Na’s soju bottle aside.
“Just one more glass.”
“You’re trying to get drunk quickly so you can go home early, aren’t you?”
At Ji Hye’s accusation, Ji Na grinned lazily.
“Caught me. Hehe…”
“Try the beef—it just melts in your mouth.”
Ji Hye picked up a piece with her chopsticks and popped it into Ji Na’s mouth.
“Mmm, it’s good.”
Ji Na chewed slowly, savoring it—then subtly reached for the soju bottle beside her.
“Beef and soju—nothing beats Hanwoo!”
Thunk. The bottle wouldn’t budge. She turned to see another hand gripping it.
“Stop drinking.”
The man with long, elegant fingers—unbelievably attractive—was Seo Jin Woo.
“Why? I want to drink more.”
Beneath Ji Na’s hand gripping the bottle’s neck, Jin Woo’s fingers twitched slightly. He looked like he was holding back frustration.
“You’re drunk, Associate.”
His worried whisper tickled her ear. Ji Na found herself smiling without realizing it.
“I don’t get drunk easily. I’m tough, okay? Lee Ji Na. Ace of the marketing team, Lee Ji Na.”
“…”
“Associate Lee—she went full speed from the start and is already wasted.”
Ji Hye picked up a piece of Hanwoo from the grill with her chopsticks.
“You still have to eat, Associate Lee Ji Na.”
Just as Ji Hye was about to feed Ji Na another bite,
“Alright, everyone—let’s pour a round! Associate Lee!”
Director Jung’s voice suddenly called out for “Associate Lee.” Ji Hye grumbled under her breath.
Trending
“Here we go again. Ugh.”
Intern Jo’s eyes widened, and Ji Hye shook her head.
“Just tough it out. It’s Director Jung’s drinking antics.”
At that moment, Ji Na abruptly stood up.
“Honey?”
Ignoring Ji Hye’s shocked voice behind her, Ji Na staggered toward the department head.
“Depaarrtment Heeead… lemme pour you a drin—kay…?”
Her face flushed bright red, her tongue completely twisted, Ji Na bowed deeply.
“Who gave this girl alcohol? She’s completely wasted. Wasted! Ugh!”
Director Jung looked at Ji Na with utter disbelief.
“I’m fineee. I can handuuule it.”
The alcohol seemed to have flooded her with manic energy.
“Someone get her out of here—smell that booze!”
Director Jung waved his hand, grimacing.
“Associate Lee, go back to your seat.”
Do Jin finally spoke up, unable to stand it any longer.
“Huh?”
Spotting Do Jin, Ji Na’s eyes widened—and she bowed deeply again, almost like performing a full prostration.
“Section Chieeef… lemme pour you a drin—kay…?”
Hearing Do Jin’s tired, clearly exhausted voice made her heart ache.
His expression and tone, tinged more with irritation than concern, seemed to confirm their relationship wasn’t what it used to be.
Even drunk, the pain was still sharp—maybe because she kept denying a truth she already knew.
Ji Na picked up the soju bottle and poured into Director Jung’s empty glass. Her unsteady hands made the bottle wobble, spilling soju over the rim. Director Jung’s face instantly tightened.
“Oh come on.”
“I-i’m so sorreee.”
Still clinging tightly to the bottle, Ji Na slurred her apology. Because of that, the tilted bottle kept pouring—soju gushed out uncontrollably.
Everyone nearby scrambled for tissues as the spilled soju soaked the table—and inevitably drenched Director Jung’s trousers.
“What the hell!”
Director Jung jumped up, shouting, and shoved Ji Na.
His trousers, now thoroughly soaked, looked as if he’d wet himself. Do Jin quickly pulled out tissues to wipe them, while Ji Na stumbled backward from the shove.
Just before she collapsed to the floor, Jin Woo caught her. Right before her consciousness faded, the last thing Ji Na saw was Jin Woo’s handsome face—his expression even sterner than before, clearly furious.
“Jin Woo…”
Then Ji Na passed out.
Ji Na groaned softly, pressing her forehead as awareness returned. Her head pounded like it might split open.
“Ugh…”
“You awake yet?”
A gentle voice sounded close by. Ji Na slowly opened her eyes.
“Hey.”
Standing before her, smiling softly, was the man—Seo Jin Woo.
“Huh?”
The shock jolted her fully awake. Jin Woo appeared to have just finished showering—he wore a bathrobe. Through the gap in the robe, his firm torso glistened with lingering droplets.
“What—what is this?”
No way. No way. No way. Her voice cracked as she squeezed out the words. Seo Jin Woo smirked and stepped closer. Ji Na quickly checked her own state under the covers.
“You want all the details?”
Thankfully, her clothes were still intact.
“You poured soju all over the table—and even onto the department head’s pants—then collapsed.”
“Ughhh!”
She couldn’t bear to hear the rest. Ji Na blurted out an apology right away.
“I’m sorry.”
Just remembering she’d thrown up on that old-fashioned Director Jung made her vision go dark, and she fell silent.

“Ugh… he’s the ultimate AA-type. Even if the world ends, he’ll never forget this grudge.”
Watching Ji Na, Seo Jin Woo gave a light chuckle.
“Want some water?”
She took the cup he offered and rolled her eyes around the room.
“Where am I?”
Through the floor-to-ceiling window beside the bed, the city’s night view sprawled out before her.
“My place.”
“Nice apartment…”
It truly was stunning—especially the cityscape glittering like stars, impossible to look away from.
“I really must’ve lived without any balance—just working nonstop.”
Ji Na murmured without realizing it.
“I didn’t even know how to pause for a breath—just kept charging ahead.”
Memories of her work-obsessed life flashed past like a reel of film.
“Still a bit drunk, huh? Getting all sentimental.”
Ji Na lowered her head, embarrassed.
“Thanks for not ditching me and taking care of me. I’ll head out now.”
She pushed aside the soft blanket and swung her legs off the bed. Standing so close to Jin Woo, who’d been right beside the bed, was unexpectedly awkward.
His eyes, still damp from his shower, shimmered softly—refracting the city lights like ripples in water.
“I’ll drive you.”
Her heart pounded so hard she quickly averted her gaze. He was way too close for comfort.
“No, it’s fine. I can’t trouble you any more.”
Ji Na hurriedly stepped off the bed and brushed past Jin Woo—his sweet, lingering scent washing over her. For some reason, her ankles felt weak.
“Kim Do Jin, the section chief—”
At Jin Woo’s quiet voice from behind, Ji Na froze mid-step.
“He seems incredibly loyal.”
His low tone sounded almost mocking—uncharacteristically sharp. Ji Na turned to look at him.
Against the backdrop of the glittering city, Seo Jin Woo stood like a king—completely at ease. Beneath his loosely tied robe, well-defined muscles caught the faint light.
“What?”
Jin Woo’s gaze held hers relentlessly. The air itself felt heated by their locked eyes. The strange tension of the night tightened around her heart.
“He took care of his boss instead of his passed-out girlfriend. He’s going to succeed, huh.”
She stared blankly at his expression—was he being sarcastic? Or was there a trace of bitterness?
“What are you trying to say?”
Ji Na asked, breathless.
Only now did she realize how dangerous it was—being alone with him in Seo Jin Woo’s apartment. She looked at him with uneasy eyes.
Could he possibly know?
That Kim Do Jin is my boyfriend…?
That he shows me not even a shred of affection…?
A jumble of thoughts sent a chill down her spine.
Especially—she never wanted him to see her like this. So pathetic, on the verge of being abandoned.
Did he see it too? That empty, indifferent look in Do Jin’s eyes?
“If it were me, nobody would be allowed to lay a hand on you.”
Jin Woo stepped closer, looking down at Ji Na as he murmured.
“You must really be confident—confident I won’t take you from him.”
His eyes held a strange sadness as they fixed on her.
“I was first, you know.”
That’s why she couldn’t stop his words.
“I liked you first—and I still…”
Her mouth tasted bitter, as if soju still lingered on her tongue.
“I like you so much…”
Even in the darkness, his eyes shimmered—flickering sorrowfully like one among countless city lights. He looked unbearably wistful.

But Ji Na could only move her lips—unable to offer comfort, or hope.
Because she was…
After a long pause, Jin Woo’s eyes suddenly gleamed—as if he’d made a decision.
“I’m going to shake things up from now on—so,”
His large, warm hand cupped Ji Na’s cheek.
“Hold on.”
Then his lips descended onto hers.
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
