I knew that gaze all too well—or rather, seeing his eyes filled with familiar warmth confirmed beyond doubt that Seo Jin Woo had returned.

Ji Na forced a smile, deliberately ignoring his bold “I missed you” as she walked past.

“Yes, it really has been ages.”

Looking at his flawlessly grown, impeccably mature appearance, Ji Na suddenly became painfully aware of her own disheveled state.

Honestly, she couldn’t look more unkempt—but of all times, this had to be how he saw her after ten years: worn out from writing reports all day and coming straight here after a humiliating meal filled with silent scoldings. It was mortifying. Their reunion was a complete disaster.

“Oh, well, I should get going now.”

As if remembering something, Ji Na awkwardly waved and quickly turned to leave.

“Nuna.”

But Jin Woo clearly had no intention of letting her go so easily.

“What’s your number?”

Perhaps because she’d seen Jin Woo, it wasn’t until she arrived at the office the next day that she finally remembered Do Jin and Heo Staff.

‘Right, I never even checked if they got home safely last night.’

It had been a night too chaotic for such thoughts. Though happy to see Jin Woo, she’d felt even more startled—and strangely compelled to avoid him.

‘After all, I have a boyfriend now…’

Five years and one day of time spent together.

Ji Na stared bitterly at the calendar marked with asterisks. It had been a day she believed special—just for her.

She let out a short sigh and turned her attention back to the hastily written report from yesterday. Despite promising to stay focused, the rushed work showed mistakes everywhere.

“Ji Na.”

At the sound of Do Jin’s voice, Ji Na’s hand stopped scrolling the mouse wheel.

“Yes.”

She hurriedly stood up—and took off her cardigan.

Do Jin’s look from yesterday, disdainfully eyeing the sleeves that drooped past her wrists, had just flashed back into her mind. Goosebumps instantly rose on her arms from the cold, but she quickly rubbed them and walked toward Do Jin.

“Last night…”

Do Jin’s sharp eyes, as always, locked onto Ji Na.

She almost smiled, thinking he’d ask if she’d gotten home safely.

“Did you finish that report?”

His utterly flat tone made Ji Na bite her lip in awkward silence.

“I’ll wrap it up today.”

“I see.”

Was that really all he had to say? Nothing about me—only about the report?

Ji Na kept gazing at Do Jin even after answering, as if waiting for him to say something more.

Do Jin simply raised one eyebrow slightly and turned his head toward his monitor.

Ji Na knew well that this gesture meant he was done with the conversation.

“Oh.”

Just as Ji Na turned to leave, Do Jin spoke quietly.

“I’ve got an off-site meeting this afternoon, so if you bring it later, I probably won’t get to check it until tomorrow.”

Off-site… She remembered going on off-site assignments with Do Jin back in the early days of their relationship. They hadn’t done that together in a long while.

“Okay.”

Most of her memories since joining the company involved Do Jin. He’d been her mentor, guiding her through every clumsy mistake… and their relationship had naturally blossomed from there.

Back at her desk, Ji Na let out a quiet sigh. Just as Do Jin’s persistent affection and courtship had finally opened her heart, he’d shifted focus entirely to promotions and work—as if that were his only goal now.

‘Once I become manager, we’ll get married.’

He repeated it like a mantra, and Ji Na had always believed it would naturally happen.

She saw their relationship less as passionate lovers and more like old friends who’d spent so long together they felt like family.

Ji Na shook her head lightly, as if to stop herself from overthinking.

Above all else, this project mattered most to Do Jin. Since it was his first assignment as manager, she needed to support him well.

‘Focus!’

Maybe, just maybe, once the project succeeded, Do Jin would finally propose.

With renewed determination, Ji Na began typing energetically on her keyboard.

“Honey!”

The voice of her lunch buddy Ji Hye echoed through the office, finally making Ji Na realize it was lunchtime.

“Oh gosh—did you sign your soul over to work? Don’t waste our precious lunch hour like that!”

Ji Na chuckled softly at Ji Hye’s playful scolding.

“If it weren’t for you, I’d be in big trouble.”

“Right? You’d be lost without me!”

Ji Hye was Ji Na’s same-age colleague who’d joined the company at the same time. With her cheerful, straightforward personality, they’d quickly become close—Ji Hye was the only person Ji Na could truly open up to in this cutthroat workplace.

“I booked a table through the app. Let’s hurry.”

Ji Hye had been talking about a new hot spot opening right in front of the office—a place constantly featured by top influencers and all over popular social media. While Ji Na never cared for such trends, Ji Hye was always ahead of them.

‘Right—this is the kind of company I work for.’

Ji Na smiled as Ji Hye linked arms with her and practically dragged her along.

Given that her department was in the fashion industry, many of her coworkers possessed exceptional style and led trends.

‘No wonder I stick out like a go stone.’

Ji Na let out a bitter smile as she glanced at herself again, then stopped walking to match Ji Hye’s sudden halt.

“Ji Hye, what’s wrong?”

“Whoa… seriously….”

Ji Hye’s eyes were fixed on the lobby entrance. Her reaction was so dramatic—like she’d just seen a celebrity—that Ji Na absentmindedly followed her gaze.

Her first thought was: Is that a celebrity? Leaning casually against the wall near the entrance, the man’s porcelain-white skin looked as if someone had lit a spotlight just for him.

His flawless facial features were so stunning they drew involuntary admiration from anyone looking.

His tall, lean frame and long legs matched proportions usually seen only in international fashion magazines, yet his white shirt revealed just enough muscle definition to stand out.

‘Seo Jin Woo?’

It took Ji Na half a beat to recognize him. What on earth was he doing here?

“What am I even seeing right now…? Is that actually a person? Am I hallucinating? Like some divine masterpiece.”

Ji Na couldn’t answer Ji Hye’s dazed muttering.

She’d just locked eyes with Seo Jin Woo.

“Seriously—did he just make eye contact with me? He saw me, right?”

Ji Na had no energy to respond to Ji Hye’s excited outburst.

Jin Woo had spotted Ji Na and was striding toward her with long, confident steps.

“Nuna.”

He clearly had been waiting for her.

“Hello.”

He greeted Ji Hye, who stood beside Ji Na, with relaxed ease. Ji Hye, flustered, returned the greeting.

“Oh, hello.”

She blushed shyly—a rare sight—as she exchanged words with the man she’d just been gushing over.

“Nuna, you’re heading to lunch, right? Let’s eat together.”

Her initial joy quickly faded. Ji Na felt the same unsettling déjà vu as last night.

Too flustered by Jin Woo’s forwardness, Ji Na quickly stepped aside and gestured toward Ji Hye.

“I already promised to have lunch with Ji Hye…”

“Oh! So your name’s Ji Hye? What a pretty name. Mind if I join you?”

Jin Woo’s face brightened as he asked without hesitation. Ji Hye, who’d been pretending to check her phone a moment earlier, dropped her arm and suddenly declared,

“Oh dear—I just remembered I actually have a prior engagement!”

Ji Na’s eyebrows shot up at Ji Hye’s abrupt excuse.

“See you later, honey.”

Before Ji Na could react, Ji Hye vanished in a flash.

A prior engagement? She’d never once had a lunch appointment since joining the company.

“Oops.”

Snapped back to reality by Jin Woo’s voice, Ji Na turned to look at him.

“Jin Woo—what brings you here?”

“I came for work, but I didn’t realize this was your company.”

It felt different from last night. Jin Woo beamed at Ji Na with sunlit eyes, smiling warmly.

True to Ji Hye’s description of him as a “divine masterpiece,” Ji Na could feel the waves of attention from passersby fixed firmly on him.

“Sigh… Let’s go somewhere quiet to talk first.”

They couldn’t keep standing in the lobby. Ji Na started walking, feeling her ordinary routine shaken by Jin Woo’s sudden appearance.

“Ji Na?”

At the familiar voice, she turned around to see Do Jin standing neatly behind her. Unlike usual, his narrow eyes looked even sharper—likely because he’d just seen her with an unfamiliar man.

“Oh, Manager.”

She barely swallowed the more personal way she usually addressed him. Even as Ji Na bowed politely, Do Jin’s gaze remained locked on Jin Woo.

“I’m Seo Jin Woo.”

Before Ji Na could speak, Jin Woo stepped forward with a cheerful smile—the same one he’d given Ji Hye.

Do Jin gave a slight, reluctant nod in acknowledgment. His eyes were full of wariness.

“I’m Kim Do Jin.”

After this brief exchange, Do Jin turned to Ji Na.

“On your way to lunch?”

“Well, um…”

Not knowing what to say, Ji Na nervously tucked her hair behind her ear. The idea of having lunch with Jin Woo felt strangely like betraying Do Jin—enough to make her feel guilty.

So she summoned her courage.

“Manager, why don’t you join us too?”

Do Jin’s eyebrow lifted slightly at her offer.

“Hmm… no. I’ve got an off-site meeting. Enjoy your meal.”

He glanced briefly at his wristwatch, gave a clean farewell, and walked past them. As Ji Na watched his retreating back with complicated feelings, Jin Woo smiled gently and said,

“Let’s go, Nuna.”

He couldn’t possibly misunderstand… Ji Na stepped forward with heavy feet, still worried about Do Jin.

“Manager! Over here!”

As Do Jin entered the restaurant, Yoon Joo, already seated, waved enthusiastically. Her unusually radiant appearance today brought a rare smile to Do Jin’s typically stern face.

“Did you wait long? I was organizing documents for the client.”

“No, not at all!”

Yoon Joo opened the menu with an endearing pout.

“Manager, I feel like I was really rude yesterday—I’ll treat you to something delicious. Go ahead and pick.”

“What rudeness?”

Do Jin chuckled dismissively.

“Shouldn’t you tell Associate Lee?”

“Huh?”

At the mention of Ji Na, Do Jin’s brow twitched slightly. He recalled seeing her just moments ago in the lobby.

Compared to Yoon Joo’s fresh, vibrant charm, Ji Na seemed frustratingly dull—always stuck in go-stone outfits. Do Jin clicked his tongue with a dissatisfied frown before speaking.

“It’s fine. I’ll tell her later.”

Yoon Joo’s eyes softened at Do Jin’s indifferent tone, and she gave him a sweet smile.

“You really are our Manager.”

Startled by her affectionate address, Do Jin momentarily froze. Yoon Joo, resting her chin in one hand with half-lidded eyes, smiled directly at him—until Do Jin finally broke into a smile too.

“‘Our Manager’… I like how that sounds.”
