Within the passing flow of time, Ji Na stood frozen like a solitary island.

‘Why is she there?’

Her mind felt tangled, unable to sort itself out. Why, how… was Staff Heo here?

Clearly, the woman seated beside Do Jin, flashing him a subtle smile, was Heo Staff.

Seeing Do Jin’s relaxed expression, Ji Na assumed there must be some reason she didn’t know and bit her lip tightly before sitting down across from him.

“Mr. Do Jin—no, Manager.”

Noticing Heo Staff’s presence, Ji Na quickly corrected her address.

“How did you end up here, Heo Staff?”

Though Ji Na tried to sound calm, her face betrayed her confusion. Unlike Ji Na, Yoon Joo replied cheerfully, as if nothing were amiss.

“Associate, I ran into Manager here by chance. It was such an amazing coincidence!”

By chance? Was she really here alone at a place couples usually visit?

When Ji Na stared at her suspiciously, Do Jin caught the look and cleared his throat a couple of times.

“She said she came alone, and since you were coming anyway, I invited her to join us.”

“Exactly! I asked Manager to treat me to something delicious.”

Before Do Jin could even finish speaking, Yoon Joo immediately answered with a bright smile.

“Oh…”

Was that really all there was to it? Still, Ji Na’s expression didn’t lighten.

Did Do Jin even remember today was their fifth anniversary? Why was he sitting here with Heo Yoon Joo? No matter how she thought about it, it made no sense.

“She also mentioned she had something on her mind, so I figured we might as well kill two birds with one stone.”

Do Jin added another sentence, looking toward Ji Na, who stood there like a petrified stone. Ji Na still looked flustered, as if she’d become an unwelcome intruder at this table.

“Go ahead and sit.”

At Do Jin’s words, Ji Na found herself being nudged into the seat opposite him and Yoon Joo. Trying to shake off her discomfort, she poured water into the glass in front of her.

“Oh right—you two are dating.”

When Yoon Joo asked Ji Na cautiously with a slightly secretive look, Ji Na flinched in surprise and turned to Do Jin. After all, it had been his idea to keep their relationship secret.

“Isn’t it incredibly hard to keep a secret office romance? I was so shocked when I first heard! Honestly, I never even imagined the two of you were together.”

Yoon Joo’s last sentence sounded oddly mocking. Ji Na took a sip from her water glass, then set it down firmly.

“Yes. It’s our fifth anniversary today.”

At Ji Na’s words, Do Jin’s eyes widened slightly—as if he were hearing it for the first time. Yoon Joo, meanwhile, opened her eyes wide in astonishment.

“Wow, that’s amazing! Five whole years? People hardly date that long these days. Seriously impressive.”

Her over-the-top reaction irritated Ji Na. She opened her mouth to speak to Yoon Joo.

“Yoon Joo, I thought today was special, so I believed I’d be having dinner alone with Do Jin. But…”

Ji Na paused briefly before continuing.

“Honestly, I’m a little uncomfortable sharing this moment with you.”

“Oh…”

Yoon Joo lowered her gaze, looking genuinely unaware.

“It’s not that I’m blaming you—it’s not personal at all. Until just now, you only knew we were dating, not that it was our anniversary.”

“Yes.”

Yoon Joo slowly nodded with a forlorn expression. Under the blue lighting, she looked so pitiful—like she’d just gotten drenched in rain—that Ji Na almost felt a pang of sympathy.

But today, of all days—this special day—Ji Na didn’t want to spend a single moment with her.

“I’m sorry, but today…”

“What do you have to be sorry about, Heo Staff? We never really make a fuss over anniversaries anyway.”

Do Jin cut off Ji Na just as she was about to ask Yoon Joo to leave. His voice sounded muffled, as if echoing from the depths of the ocean.

“It’s my fault. I intruded without thinking… I’m really sorry.”

At Do Jin’s reassurance, Yoon Joo suddenly burst into tears.

Ji Na, seated across the table, raised an eyebrow. Why on earth was she crying?

Flustered, Do Jin handed Yoon Joo a tissue as she wiped her face with both hands.

“Yoon Joo, why are you crying? It’s okay.”

In an instant, Ji Na had been cast as the villain. Utterly speechless, she sighed deeply.

“Hey, Heo Yoon Joo.”

She was a new hire who’d joined the company earlier this year and hadn’t been working long. Ever since her hiring, rumors had swirled that she was connected to the company’s owner—partly because she shared the chairman’s surname.

But it wasn’t just the surname. She was also suspected of being a “parachute hire,” since her work performance was shockingly poor.

It was so baffling how she’d even gotten the job—people could only guess it had something to do with her fox-like, alluring face and curvaceous figure.

“What am I supposed to be if you start crying here, Yoon Joo?”

By now, their fifth anniversary dinner was long ruined. Ji Na spoke quietly, almost pointedly—but Do Jin, who’d been comforting Yoon Joo, suddenly looked sharply at her.

“Ji Na, that’s enough.”

His eyes were icy cold—just like the blue lighting.

There was not a trace of the warmth Ji Na had always cherished.

“Um… I’ll be right back—just going to the restroom.”

As if sensing the tension, Yoon Joo quietly excused herself, clutching the tissue Do Jin had given her.

“Do Jin…”

Ji Na wanted to ask, “Enough of what?”—but the words wouldn’t come out.

She simply stared at him, calling only his name, hoping he’d speak first.

“Ha…”

Crushing her hopes, Do Jin irritably swept his bangs aside.

“Ji Na.”

His voice sounded like he was holding back anger, and Ji Na’s interlocked fingers tightened.

“She didn’t know.”

That was all he said—defending Staff Heo Yoon Joo.

“It’s fine to share a meal. You don’t just leave someone who came alone feeling awkward.”

“Did you even know today was our anniversary?”

Do Jin sighed in exasperation.

“Yeah, I know. That’s why I asked to meet, right?”

Just hearing that gave Ji Na a fleeting sense of relief. Ridiculously enough, that single sentence made her feel as if Do Jin still loved her.

“Yoon Joo recently broke up with her boyfriend. She was really heartbroken. Let’s just be kind—no harm in that.”

Even if her breakup wasn’t a valid reason to share their anniversary.

Still, since they worked in the same office—and after just seeing Yoon Joo cry—Ji Na tried hard to push down her own hurt feelings.

“Okay.”

Though still upset, Ji Na looked at Do Jin and answered, trying to appear fine.

“Good. Ji Na.”

Only then did Do Jin finally offer her a faint smile.

Soon after, Yoon Joo returned. Smiling brightly as if she’d never cried, she began to speak.

“I’m really sorry for barging in so thoughtlessly. I just saw Manager here and got so excited I had to say hi.”

She fiddled with her fingers, looking adorably coy.

“Nah, it’s fine. Meeting like this must be fate.”

Do Jin seemed happier than usual.

“Oh my—fate!”

At Do Jin’s words, Yoon Joo covered her mouth, looking touched.

“Ever since I joined the company, I’ve always thought Manager and Associate were such wonderful people. I guess this really is fate.”

Yoon Joo clearly compensated for her lack of job competence with exceptional people-pleasing skills.

“What? Hahahaha.”

Do Jin finally burst out laughing. Unlike Yoon Joo, who laughed along with him, a shadow of gloom settled over Ji Na.

‘I’m glad Do Jin seems happy.’

Watching them, Ji Na forced a bitter smile onto her lips.

Their fifth anniversary dinner ended emptily. Since Do Jin and Yoon Joo lived in the same direction, they got into a taxi together.

Ji Na turned toward the bus stop after seeing them off. It was nearly 10 p.m., and the street—filled with offices—was eerily quiet.

‘Yoon Joo seems really drunk, so I’ll drop her off on my way.’

Ji Na couldn’t very well object to Do Jin’s words.

After all, Yoon Joo had downed so much alcohol while talking about her breakup that she clearly couldn’t go home alone. If Ji Na made a scene now, she’d just look like the unreasonable one—so she held her tongue.

‘I should’ve just gotten completely drunk myself.’

Only now did the ache in her heart truly hit her. Their fifth anniversary had passed so hollowly. It seemed she’d been the only one who’d looked forward to it. She felt pathetic for even hoping he might propose.

‘Maybe it just wasn’t the right time. Or maybe… Heo Staff showed up before he could do what he’d prepared.’

Standing at the bus stop, Ji Na closed her eyes briefly—the sound of Heo Staff’s childish voice still echoing in her head.

Rewriting her report had already been exhausting, and now her mind remained unsettled all evening. Fatigue finally caught up with her. She dozed off on the nearly empty bus, barely managing to wake up in time to get off at her stop.

She was so tired—or perhaps her tension had finally eased—that her steps wobbled as she stepped off the bus. Expecting to fall, Ji Na squeezed her eyes shut.

Instead of pain, someone caught her arm.

“Oh—thank you.”

She didn’t fall, but she was still embarrassed. Without looking at her helper’s face, Ji Na quickly bowed her head in thanks and hurried away.

“Hey.”

She hadn’t taken more than a few steps when a voice called out from behind. Its soft, low tone told her the helper was a young man. Wondering if she’d made a mistake, Ji Na slowed her pace.

“Ji Na noona?”

Hearing her name so suddenly, Ji Na stopped walking.

‘Seo Jin Woo?’

Standing before her when she turned around was Seo Jin Woo—exactly as she remembered him.

“Seo… Jin Woo?”

“Noona, have you been well?”

Jin Woo stepped closer with a beaming smile, instantly brightening the dim surroundings.

He’d grown so tall since high school that Ji Na had to look up at him now.

His fair skin remained smooth and pale, his well-proportioned features as striking as ever. His broad shoulders and defined muscles stretched his white shirt taut.

The grown-up Seo Jin Woo was devastatingly handsome.

“What… what are you doing here?”

Surprise and joy tangled in her voice, making her words tumble out awkwardly.

“It’s been ten years since we last met.”

Jin Woo’s deep chestnut eyes fixed clearly on Ji Na, burning with summer-like warmth.

“I’ve missed you, noona.”

His words instantly revived my faded, black-and-white memories.

Long ago, on a summer day—the eyes that confessed to me.

Now, the same eyes belonging to Seo Jin Woo, standing before me, gazing right at me.

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
