The carriage carrying its master entered the ducal residence. It was earlier than usual.

Mason, who had come out to greet them, gave Herdin the answer he wanted even before Herdin could ask.

“My lady received a letter from Marchioness Felic this morning and went out.”

Upon hearing this, Herdin’s brow briefly furrowed, then he let out a weary laugh.

“Did she say when she’d be back?”

“She said she’d return before dinner.”

Herdin glanced at the grandfather clock behind Mason. There was still plenty of time until dinner.

Herdin walked past him and went upstairs to the second floor, where the couple’s bedroom was located. As Mason had said, Blair wasn’t in the room. Only her distinctive scent lingered in the air.

Quite some time had passed since Asiel had gone to visit Count Arbon’s estate, and in just four days, the child would return.

He had come home early today hoping to spend more time alone with Blair before Asiel came back, yet his wife wasn’t even at home.

Ever since that night when they’d seriously discussed having a second child, Blair had become noticeably busier. She visited art galleries, attended charity events, and started frequently joining noblewomen’s salons.

After spending her entire day on external engagements, she’d return home and, perhaps because she wasn’t naturally fond of going out, would quickly fall asleep, complaining of exhaustion.

So last night, he’d asked her in advance whether she had any plans for today. She’d said no, so he’d wrapped up his own schedule early and returned—but who would’ve thought she’d suddenly have other plans?

Still, seeing her actively seeking her own happiness through these outside activities seemed both endearing and reassuring… or so he’d thought.

Yet now, returning to a house without his wife left him with an odd feeling.
