Kai laughed aloud, clearly amused.
“Quite right, Lisi.”
Kai didn’t point out the part where Lisi had referred to the mansion as ‘my mansion.’
Only then did the tension in Lisi’s body finally ease.
Though Kai was tall, making her perch high, his chest was broad and his arms strong. He would never let her fall.
Carrying Lisi, Kai entered the bedroom and gently set her down on the sofa, which was still piled high with Nathan’s clothes.
“Change into my robe, Lisi. I’ll summon a tailor, so until tomorrow, it’s best you stay in this room wearing my robe.”
“Kai, I…”
“I’ll do the same.”
I’m not a greenhouse plant. Don’t think you can handle me however you please.
Her intended words were cut off by Kai’s reply.
“I’ll also wear a robe and stay in this room all day. That would be fair, wouldn’t it?”
Lisi fell silent and looked up at him steadily.
“Why are you staring like that?”
“Because it’s unexpected.”
“What is?”
“I thought we married for political reasons, given our respective positions.”
“Whatever comes before it, marriage is still marriage, and the fact that you’ve become my wife won’t change. If you wanted a purely business-like relationship, you’ll have to abandon that hope, Lisi. This is simply who I am.”

A strangely hot sensation gathered low in his abdomen. He cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to drown out the sound of her undressing.
“I’m done changing.”
“Good.”
“Now you change too.”
“Very well. Oh, you may watch me change if you like.”
“I won’t.”
Lisi’s stubbornly turned back, making Kai chuckle.
“I need a personal maid.”
While Kai changed his clothes, Lisi spoke up.
“Someone from a good family, well-educated, and discreet would be best.”
“I’ll let Jamie know.”
“And in a few days, Viscount Alford Fuchs will probably come to visit.”
Viscount Alford Fuchs? Who was that?
He then recalled—he was the man who had tried to marry Lisi at the last minute.
“That man wants me?”
“Or you.”
Even after Kai finished changing into his robe and turned around, Lisi still kept her back to him.
“I’m done changing, Lisi.”
Lisi, suspecting Kai might be lying, turned her head slightly to check if he was properly dressed before finally turning her body.

When Lisi gestured toward the sofa, Kai instinctively pushed Nathan’s clothes piled high on it aside to clear a spot for her to sit.
Lisi sat down without even thanking him, as if it were only natural for him to do such things for her.
“What should I do with that man, Lisi? Shall I slit his throat so he never appears before you again?”
Lisi smiled quietly.
“There’s no need for that. Just make sure he transfers the Lavent gold mine to you—and then give that mine to me as a wedding gift.”
Lisi knew Alford well.
Even now that she had married Kai, Alford wouldn’t give up easily. He was probably already staying at the ducal mansion, acting rudely and demanding they hand Lisi over.
She also knew Britney well.
Britney wouldn’t accept that Lisi had secured Count Green. Right now, she was likely lying awake with jealousy, scheming ways to drive a wedge between Lisi and Kai.

Kai strode across the table and lifted Lisi’s chin with his index finger. A dark, murderous intent flickered in his steel-blue eyes.
“Because what I hold is your lifeline as well.”
Once again, Lisi’s eyes didn’t waver. She calmly disregarded the killing intent that seemed ready to tear out her throat at any moment.
Kai liked her defiant attitude, yet he didn’t withdraw the killing intent. Within this suffocating pressure, he wanted to see just how far she could go.
“What a petty man…”
The unexpected words slipping from Lisi’s plump lips shattered Kai’s killing aura. The corners of her mouth lifted faintly.
“I had no idea the great Count Green was a man who couldn’t even gift his headstrong, greedy wife a single gold mine in Lavent.”
Lisi murmured casually, and Kai couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“Don’t make me seem too incapable, Lisi.”
“Show me what you can do.”
“So you’re not only headstrong and greedy, but also picky.”
“You’ll have to get used to it.”
Kai’s eyes narrowed into crescent moons. After gazing intently at Lisi for a while, he finally asked,

Lisi spoke without turning her gaze from outside the window.
Bathed in sunlight, she looked as if she might vanish into a place beyond Kai’s reach.
Kai moved closer to her side.
“Lisi, what exactly do you want to do?”
“First, the hot south. Then the rugged west, the cold north, and finally, the bountiful east.”
Lisi turned her head toward Kai.
“I’ll place them all beneath my feet.”
Kai’s brow furrowed slightly.
“You have big dreams, Lisi. Even the emperors of the Gaviazar Empire never achieved that.”
The Gaviazar Empire was the wealthiest and strongest nation on the continent of Elerond. Emperors throughout its history had tried countless methods to place the entire continent beneath their feet, yet none succeeded.
Kai assumed Lisi, who had lived quietly at the Wittelo Dukedom, simply didn’t understand the world and thus dreamed impossible dreams.
“We’ll see whether the Lavent gold mine becomes a purse for my selfish desires or a stepping stone to place this continent under my feet.”
Lisi poked Kai’s chest with her index finger. Her soft violet eyes sparkled playfully as she looked up at him.
“If you’re truly a man of vision, invest in me.”
In truth, Kai could have easily gifted Lisi the Lavent gold mine. It wouldn’t matter to him whether she used the profits to buy dresses, necklaces, or anything else.
He simply enjoyed exchanging such playful banter with her.
Kai didn’t believe Lisi truly intended to place the entire continent beneath her feet.
Even if she used the Lavent gold mine for luxury, he’d gently tease her about today’s conversation and then smile and say it was alright.
Thinking this, Kai nodded.
“Very well, Countess Green. I shall gift you the Lavent gold mine.”
