The Beast Swallowed by the Flower (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 5
Beastkin.
Though called “humans cursed by beasts,” there was no accurate information about why beastkin were born.
It wasn’t that beastkin never emerged from human-human unions, nor that they always resulted from beastkin-beastkin pairings.
It was entirely random.
Usually, the transformation occurred around adulthood—at about eighteen years old—when one discovered they were a beastkin, though few beastkin lived long.
As soon as they transformed, reports were filed with the authorities, and they were killed on the spot.
Long ago, it was said that beastkin were treated as humans and lived accordingly.
In fact, being a beastkin was once regarded as a special talent, earning them treatment akin to that of mages.
Several centuries ago, the Holy Nation branded beastkin as “children of demons” and launched a campaign to exterminate them, permanently imprinting the notion in people’s minds that beastkin were either “children of demons” or “humans cursed by beasts.”
Beastkin suffered discrimination and were denied even the chance to live.
The ironic truth—that Kaelbrant of the Green family, who enjoyed the Holy Nation’s patronage, was himself a beastkin—had been known only to Kai’s family.
Until now.
Kai watched with amusement the petite, pale woman frozen in place as she stared at him.
Lisi, who usually wouldn’t bat an eyelash no matter what happened, now stood utterly stunned, her eyes wide with shock—an amusing sight.
Soon, Lisi’s pale cheeks flushed pink.
As if unwilling to let anyone notice her surprise, she squeezed her eyes shut and then opened them again.
Though she regained her usual aloof expression, her face remained vividly red.
“…This is quite unsettling.”
Lisi murmured.
Kai slowly lowered his head and looked down at his own body.
“Why?”
“This… situation.”
“It is rather intimate. Do you like it?”
“Must I like it?”
“It’s the body you’ll be seeing every day from now on.”
“Every day….”
Lisi gulped. Now even her neck was flushed red.
Did this woman realize just how crimson her face had become?
Probably not—that’s why she kept that haughty, composed expression despite everything.
Kai found himself liking Lisi more and more.
“You look beastly.”
“Not ‘look’—I am one, Lisi.”
When Kai stepped forward abruptly, Lisi jumped in fright and took a step back.
Quickly regaining her composure, she lifted her chin and assumed an arrogant expression once more.
Yet Kai could tell she was holding her breath.
“I am a beast, Lisi.”
“Oh… I see. Could you please… put some clothes on first?”
“Do I need to, Lisi? I intend to get into bed with you just like this.”
Lisi’s amethyst eyes wavered, unable to settle.
Seeing this, Kai felt an even stronger urge to tease her.
“If you dislike the bed, here is fine too.”
As Kai bent toward Lisi’s neck, he noticed her small hands gripping her skirt tightly.
‘I should stop teasing her now.’
Just as Kai thought this—
Burst!
The door swung open without a knock.
“Captain! Captain! The lady who’s to be our sister-in-law… Gah! What the—what are you doing?! Are you mad?!”
Wallace’s voice rang out.
Kai sighed and straightened his posture.
“Knock.”
Trending
“Oh—right.”
Wallace stepped back, walked to the door, and tapped it twice with his hand.
“I’ll come in, Captain. Gah! Captain, why are you like that?!”
“Why is the Captain…?”
Nathan entered with a deep, rumbling voice.
“Whoa… Captain, why… whoa….”
Pushing aside the retreating Nathan, Eugene silently went to the wardrobe, pulled out a black robe, and handed it to Kai.
Watching Kai put on the robe, Eugene spoke.
“The tasks you ordered have been completed successfully. And Captain—displaying such behavior before a lady on your very first day is highly improper. Please exercise restraint.”
Eugene turned toward Lisi.
“Lady Iris, please allow me to apologize on behalf of the Captain for his rudeness.”
“Understood.”
By now, the redness had vanished from Lisi’s face.
Kai felt a twinge of disappointment. Though he appreciated Lisi’s usual icy aloofness, he’d also grown fond of the flustered, blushing version of her.
“Um, sister-in-law… you are officially our sister-in-law starting today, right?”
Wallace asked Lisi cautiously. Unfazed by his intimidating appearance and massive build, Lisi looked up at him confidently and nodded.
“You may call me Lisi.”
“No, no! How could I possibly address the Captain’s wife so casually? I never imagined our Captain would marry… Huff. Sister-in-law, I humbly ask for your kindness. Our Captain has countless shortcomings, but please don’t abandon him—cherish him for a long, long time.”
Wallace was too busy wiping away tears and grasping Lisi’s hands with both of his, shaking them earnestly up and down.
“Hey! How dare you grab a lady’s hands so recklessly? You truly have no manners whatsoever… Get out of the way.”
Nathan shoved Wallace aside and stepped in front of Lisi.
He snapped into a formal stance and bowed crisply.
“A pleasure to meet you, sister-in-law! My name is Nathan.”
“Likewise.”
“Sister-in-law, if you ever feel anything is lacking during your stay, just tell me—Nathan. Even if you wake in the night needing something, simply ring the bell over there.”
Lisi was slightly surprised.
She’d agreed to this political marriage with Kai, using his secret—that he was a beastkin—as leverage, almost like a threat.
She’d expected no one in this mansion to welcome her.
Yet here they were, showing her such warmth.
This new life might be more enjoyable than she’d anticipated.

Britney couldn’t contain her anger.
“They took her away immediately?”
“Yes. He said he worried I’d change my mind and refuse to send her.”
“That’s absurd. Are you certain Count Green really said that?”
“That’s exactly what he said. He seems utterly smitten with Iris.”
“No, that really doesn’t make sense. Why would Count Green—no, no. It just can’t be.”
Britney shook her head irritably.
“Father, please do something. I absolutely refuse to let her marry Count Green. Do you have any idea how popular Count Green is? I’d rather die than see her walking arm-in-arm with him, flaunting herself as Countess Green!”
“Leave it be. Even if she joins the Green family, she’s still connected to us—the Wittelos. She’ll be of great help to us.”
“Help? I don’t need any of that!”
“Don’t need it? Do you even know what we gained today thanks to selling her off? We got the Venot gold mine—that enormous gold mine!”
“Oh, what good is a gold mine?”
“Think it’s just the mine? That fool Count Green even bought the Hadun region.”
“The Hadun region? Isn’t that place barren?”
“Exactly! He paid an outrageous sum for that wasteland—probably just wanted to show off his wealth in front of Iris. Darling, you were right. We did well to raise her nicely and then sell her off.”
Gloven turned to his wife, Denise.
Denise, who had been gazing at her teacup, spoke.
“Still, it’s a bit of a waste letting her take the position of Countess Green.”
“No waste at all. I’ve already secured a connection to Crown Prince Iovert’s inner circle—our Britney will attain a position far higher than mere countess.”

At the mention of the Crown Prince, Britney’s eyes sparkled.
“Really?”
“That’s right. So stop worrying about something as trivial as Countess Green. Just focus on maintaining proper conduct. Darling, now that we’ve got money, shall we renovate the mansion? You mentioned wanting new dresses, didn’t you?”
“I’ve already had my eye on a few…”
While Gloven and Denise compiled a shopping list, Britney fantasized about the Crown Prince.
He wasn’t as handsome as Kai, but the Crown Prince was still undeniably good-looking.
And unlike a mere count, the Crown Prince was someone even nobles dared not meet eye-to-eye with.
‘Me as Crown Princess…!’
Britney already felt like she’d assumed the title.
‘Yes, you can have the title of Countess Green. I’ll become Crown Princess and summon you and Count Green before me every single day. And right in front of you, I’ll make him mine.’
What expression would Lisi wear then?
She’d probably hang her head low, speechless, wearing that same tearful, miserable look.
That suited Lisi perfectly.
‘Being loved is my role, Iris. You look prettiest when you’re scrubbing floors.’

As they ate dinner brought in by the maids, Kai and Lisi had a long discussion about their future.
Before they knew it, it was time for bed.
“I didn’t manage to prepare nightclothes. I assumed you’d bring some.”
Kai said.
“The only thing I had at that house was this dress. I don’t mind sleeping in it.”
“That won’t do.”
Kai fetched one of his robes from the wardrobe.
“Wear this for tonight.”
“Thank you.”
Lisi reached out to take the robe, but Kai didn’t hand it to her.
When she tilted her head questioningly, Kai spoke.
“It’s our wedding night—I’d like to help my wife change into her nightclothes myself.”
“Oh.”
Lisi blushed, recalling Kai’s naked form from earlier.
She’d thought she wouldn’t be flustered by a man’s body.
Her heart had grown hard from enduring endless humiliations in her past life—she believed nothing could make it race anymore.
Yet the moment she saw Kai’s body—gazing upon that perfect, utterly unfamiliar form—
her heart had leapt.
Merely looking at him had stirred such emotion—her heart pounded with wondrous intensity.
“Then… do as you wish.”
Lisi spoke calmly, forcing composure as she reached for her dress.
She’d resolved to do anything for a peaceful life. Undressing before a man meant nothing—she could endure far worse.
Her hands slowly untied the laces and unfastened the buttons of her dress.
Throughout, Kai’s gaze remained fixed on her.
Though it shouldn’t have been possible, his eyes felt as if they caressed every inch of her body.
As she lifted the dress off, her porcelain-white skin—bare except for her corset—was revealed.
The air felt cool against her bare skin, but only for a moment.
Kai quickly wrapped her in the robe.
His robe was so large it enveloped her like a blanket.
“You’re small.”
“Yes. And you’re large.”
Kai’s eyes narrowed.
Seeing his amused, crinkled smile, Lisi inexplicably felt happy and offered a faint smile of her own.
At the sight of Lisi’s smile, Kai’s eyes widened slightly. He gently lifted her small chin with his thumb and forefinger.
Gazing into her eyes with his steel-gray ones, he whispered,
