“Mom, you’re going to get me out, right? Huh? Right?”

Ji Hoon, whose face had sunken in drastically over just a few days, greeted Ji Eun—visiting him in detention—with this fearful first sentence.

“Of course. Don’t worry. Do you really think Mom would just leave you in a place like this? Your dad is working hard right now, and if he can’t do it, we’ll hire even more capable, top-tier lawyers to defend you thoroughly—so absolutely *don’t* worry.”

“No, Mom! That’s not it! We have to find Seo Woo Jin—or if not him, then at least Min Tae Eun!”

Ji Eun’s brow furrowed at Ji Hoon’s frustrated whisper, as though afraid someone might overhear.

Yes, she wasn’t ignorant of that. She knew full well that persuading Woo Jin or Tae Eun would be the most effective path forward. But how could she beg, apologize, or even *try* anything unless they’d at least pick up the phone?

Both of them outright refused to answer calls from Ji Eun or Min Kyung Hoon, and when Ji Eun went to the Jangwon headquarters building in person, she was turned away at the front desk by the secretarial office. Threatening to report them to the police only made them retaliate in kind, leaving her no choice but to retreat.

Yet she couldn’t possibly tell Ji Hoon—locked up as he was—the full truth. If Ji Hoon, already so anxious, lost even his last shred of hope, he might give up entirely and confess to everything on his own, dragging Ji Eun down with him.

Ji Eun would willingly shoulder *all* the blame if it meant getting Ji Hoon released. But since his confession would effectively detonate them both, she forced herself to keep her expression carefully composed.

“Then Mom will definitely contact Mr. Seo and Tae Eun too. Of course.”

“Absolutely! *Absolutely!*”

“I told you not to worry. Mom will do everything in her power to get our son out of here—even just a single day sooner.”

“I trust only you. Got it?”

Though Ji Hoon’s mood brightened instantly and he beamed with a wide smile, Ji Eun felt as though her insides were crumbling, threatening to collapse on the spot.

He’d bragged so confidently that the trace would be impossible to follow—and yet in the end, he’d been exposed. Worse, the fool had left the evidence untouched on his own laptop, leaving him with no way to deny it. The only silver lining was that Ji Hoon was keeping his mouth shut, and Ji Eun had already destroyed the original paper she’d passed him—so the blame for spreading false information pointed solely at Ji Hoon.
