A heavy silence filled the car, as neither of the two spoke first.
Yet Tae Eun was lost in deep thought. She couldn’t forget the man’s gaze from the moment he asked, “Do you really see me as just that kind of man?”
—I know. I know all too clearly what kind of treatment you’d receive if you walked into that house with that bastard.
Just how much did he know—from where to where?

Truth be told, entering the house together with the drunken Ji Hoon right after their heated argument would have been nearly suicidal. Ji Hoon wouldn’t have stopped there, and Min Kyung Hoon and Ji Eun would have sided with him, treating her like a stray dog.
Looking back, the man had saved her once again from that hell.
“Where are we going?”
Breaking the long silence, she finally asked. She had boarded the car without question, following his lead, simply because she had nowhere else to go.
“What, are you worried I’ll kidnap Min Tae Eun and take her somewhere strange?”
“No, it’s not that…”
“Does it really matter where we’re going?”
“…”
“What matters is that today, Min Tae Eun doesn’t have to go back to that house.”
At his words, Tae Eun was momentarily speechless—he had just pointed out a very real and crucial fact.
She didn’t have to go home today.
Even in that situation, she had stubbornly tried forcing herself back into that hell, simply because, after all, it was still her home. Though it offered her no comfort or sense of ease, it was still *home*. To deny that would be to lose even her sense of belonging, leaving her truly with nowhere left to turn.
Just then, her phone vibrated. She took it out of her handbag—the caller was none other than Ji Eun. Most likely, Ji Hoon had returned home drunk and rambled some story, prompting Ji Eun to call.
Instinctively, Tae Eun sensed that answering this call would only bring harsh words.
“Don’t answer it—not today.”
As she hesitated, he made the decision for her. And as if guided by some unseen force, she slipped her ringing phone back into her handbag.
For today, at least, she wanted to let go of all thoughts and simply follow wherever he led.

The car came to a stop in an unfamiliar, vast place. Woo Jin got out while still on a call, and Tae Eun followed, dazed and disoriented.
A meticulously manicured garden and soft ambient lighting enhanced the grandeur of the imposing building.
Since he was still on the phone, she dared not ask questions and simply trailed behind—until he turned back and asked,
“By the way, how much do you weigh?”
“My… weight?”
When he nodded slightly with his eyes, she answered,
“Forty-eight kilograms? I think… around that.”
Before she could even ask why, he seemed to relay her height and weight to someone else. As they entered the house, the lights turned on, revealing a massive foyer.
“I sent everyone away—I thought you might feel uncomfortable.”
“Then… where is this?”
“My residence. The Jangwon main house.”
“So… does that mean Grandmother and the Aunts are also here?”
“That’s right—but they’re in a different building, so they won’t know you’re here. Don’t worry too much.”
Tae Eun nodded and scanned the interior. Though her own home was quite large—Min Kyung Hoon being a fairly successful attorney—it was nothing compared to the Jangwon main house where Woo Jin lived.
The interior design was both sophisticated and unique, captivating the eye—and combined with the sheer scale, the building perfectly reflected the stature of the Jangwon family.
“It’s incredibly spacious.”
“Yes. A bit too spacious to live here alone, actually.”
“You live here alone?”
“Well, I mostly just sleep here and leave.”
“Why only sleep here?”
“Because I spend more time at the office than here. Naturally, it turns into just a place to sleep.”
Ah—she’d momentarily forgotten just how busy he was.
“Soon, some things suitable for you to wear will arrive.”
“Things for me to wear?”
“I asked Manager Song, my personal shopper. Shall I give you a tour of the house in the meantime?”
Tae Eun carefully nodded. She could truly feel his effort to ease her tension.
“This, as you can see, is the foyer, and over there is the dining room. And here is where I work out.”
As she followed him from room to room, Tae Eun was continually amazed. She’d known it was big—but who could have imagined a private cinema, a gym, and even a massive outdoor soaking tub? It was, quite simply, a life on another level entirely.
Only then did Tae Eun deeply grasp who this man truly was—or rather, only now did she truly understand why Ji Eun clung so desperately to Seo Woo Jin.
To her, he was someone utterly unattainable.
Wealth and power—already distinct from ordinary people—seemed to give even greater wings to a man who was already inherently attractive.
“And this… is my bedroom.”
After ascending to the second floor, the final door he opened felt different from the others—difficult to step into without hesitation. When she paused, he smirked and said,
“What are you thinking? I’m just showing it to you.”
“Thinking? What… what do you mean?”
“I won’t ask you to sleep with me here, so feel free to come in and look.”
Teased by his mischievous comment, Tae Eun shot him a gentle glare, her face flushing. Deep down, his remark had struck an embarrassingly raw nerve.
Inside, his bedroom was truly breathtaking—a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the garden, a massive bed, and a uniquely stylish sofa. Yet, unlike the other rooms, the decor was strikingly minimalist.
“I don’t really like clutter.”
Thanks to the simplicity, the already vast space felt even more open—and Tae Eun thought this room suited him remarkably well.
Just then, his phone vibrated. After answering, he informed her that her clothes had finally arrived.
Following Woo Jin downstairs, she spotted several neatly placed shopping bags on the table—a sign that the personal shopper had already come and gone.
“You remember the room I showed you earlier? Right next to my bedroom. You’ll stay in that room tonight.”
“Thank you.”
She took the shopping bags he handed her and went back upstairs, entering the room he’d pointed out. Though not as large as his bedroom, it was undeniably the most luxurious room she’d ever set foot in.
The place where she would stay tonight.
No—perhaps even the place she’d reside in permanently after marriage.
Once she closed the door and was left alone, the tension she’d been holding back finally released, and her carefully composed composure collapsed in an instant. Truly, today had been unbearably difficult—like fighting a small war.
Entering the bathroom, Tae Eun undressed and took a shower. As warm water touched her skin, exhaustion crashed down on her, as if her body were sinking straight into the earth. She couldn’t tell how long she stood beneath the hot spray.
When she finally came to her senses, her shoulders were already red from the heat.
Hastily finishing her shower, she put on the underwear and lounge set the personal shopper had brought. It was astonishing how perfectly the clothes fit, based solely on her height and weight.
After applying the provided toner and lotion, Tae Eun sat briefly before the mirror, brushing back her damp hair and studying her reflection.
Though she was merely in another location, she felt as if she’d crossed into an entirely different dimension—as if wearing ill-fitting clothes, awkward and out of place. Perhaps that was why, despite mental exhaustion and physical weariness, sleep still eluded her.
Just then, her phone vibrated.
[Are you asleep?]Above the many unread messages from Ji Eun, a new message from Woo Jin appeared.
[No, not yet.] [Then come downstairs? To the bar, right beside the dining room.]She hesitated for a moment—but having come this far, and since he wasn’t asking her into his bedroom, she decided there was no real reason to refuse, and headed down.
As she entered the bar, she saw him. Like her, he had apparently just finished showering—his hair still damp, clinging softly to his forehead, and dressed in comfortable lounge wear.
Normally, he wore perfectly slicked-back pomade and impeccably tailored suits—so this relaxed version of him felt like meeting someone new. The loose fringe even made him seem slightly younger—though his lounge wear couldn’t mask his imposing physique.
“Want a drink? I doubt I’ll sleep anytime soon.”
“No, I really can’t handle alcohol at all.”
“Oh—then… how about a cup of tea?”
“Yes. A warm cup of tea should be fine.”
He handed her a cup and sat across from her at the bar. In the softly lit, atmospheric space, two damp figures facing each other stirred a strange, nervous tension. Though her body had relaxed under the warm water, now it tensed again—and Tae Eun took a cautious sip from her cup.
Setting the cup down with a soft clink, she moistened her parched mouth and cautiously brought up the words she’d held back until now.
“Thank you… for today.”
“For what?”
“Just… for everything. I know you did all this because you were thinking of me.”
Meeting her calm voice with quiet eyes, he slowly rolled his glass of whiskey on the rocks. Watching his unusually long fingers, Tae Eun swallowed hard. Even this habitual, effortless motion seemed overwhelming in this unfamiliar space—his presence dominated everything around him.
“My style, you see, Min Tae Eun…”
He began speaking, his tone as slow as the motion of his fingers circling the glass. Yet his voice pierced clearly into her ears, carrying undeniable weight.
“…is to drag that bastard home immediately, expose everything he’s done, and crush him. And if he shows no remorse, crush him again—and take down anyone who sides with him, down to his in-laws and distant relatives, until he can never rise again.”

“I don’t know how to walk away. Nor do I have the patience for it.”

“And yet I held back and turned away—for you.”
At his firm declaration, Tae Eun’s pupils trembled faintly. Only now did she realize just how much restraint he must have exercised during that brief moment when she’d felt so ashamed.
“But you still have to return to that house—for now. Because in the moment, my actions might only make things harder for you.”
Still, she couldn’t understand. They had agreed to marry—but why go this far for her, after only their second meeting?
“Why? Why… are you being this kind to me?”
“Huh. So even though we’ve decided to marry, you’re asking why I’m doing all this—despite not loving you?”
He let out a short, amused laugh and casually spoke the words *not loving you*, as if it meant nothing. Truly, he was impossible to read—moments ago, he’d empathized so deeply with her suffering as if it were his own, yet now he coldly drew a line between them with those very words.
She had no idea how to respond—what rhythm to follow.
“Yes. Exactly that.”
Her clear, unwavering voice made his previously languid gaze sharpen instantly. Seeing this, all she could do was swallow a dry breath.
“I was raised, from the moment I was born, to prioritize duty over personal rights—because duty is essential to protect what I hold.”
“…”
“Your past life doesn’t matter to me. The moment we decided to marry, you entered my boundary.”
“…”
“And I cannot stand—*cannot stand*—anyone, no matter who, treating the woman who’ll become my wife with such disrespect. Not even if it’s your younger brother, or your mother or father.”

“It drives me absolutely furious.”
His slow but resolute voice pierced fiercely into her eardrums. In the end, his words all came down to *duty*. So why did that word leave her feeling so hollow?

Biting her lip, she lowered her gaze—only for him to reach out, cup her chin, and lift her face to meet his.
Meeting his gaze, Tae Eun sharply inhaled. Instinctively, she knew what he was about to do.

“Since I’ll never figure it out… how about you explain it to me—just once?”
Though he asked, it wasn’t a question he expected her to answer. Instead, he lowered his lips and swiftly claimed hers—before she could even prepare.
