Summer Must Die (16 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 3
“……Mary.”
Summer’s voice lacked confidence. Summer still found the suddenly changed Mary unfamiliar and uncomfortable.
It was akin to witnessing a robot suddenly melting down and transforming into a human right before her eyes.
An ambiguous existence that was neither human nor a character. That was Mary.
And in truth, Summer was such an existence too. This was a kind of self-loathing toward her own kind.
“Miss. Do you need anything?”
“Do you perhaps have party invitations?”
“Of course. I’ll bring them.”
“It would be better if it’s a party that Lady Dudley is attending.”
Summer gave instructions in a deliberately stiff voice without even meeting Mary’s eyes.
Nevertheless, Mary didn’t flinch and quickly brought a heap of invitations.
“There are this many?”
Summer sighed at the volume of invitations.
During the social season, large and small parties are held by each family to facilitate active exchanges among nobles. And in this empire, there were an enormous number of families. Therefore, tonight was doomed.
As Summer had predicted, she had to sort through invitations all day long.
By the time she narrowed them down centering on the families that appeared quite a bit in the novel, the sun had long set.
“Wow, I’m really exhausted……”
“How about having some lemon tea?”
At the sudden voice, Summer snapped her eyes open and looked to the side. There stood Mary with her freckled round face.
“Ah, Mary. It’s okay. Just deliver these, and you can go rest too.”
“Understood. Then have a good night, Miss.”
Mary took the sorted invitations and left the room. Summer was so exhausted that she couldn’t even make it to the bed and sprawled out on the desk.
“I ended up staring at letters even here.”
Suddenly, Summer felt like crying.
Since it’s inside a novel anyway, even if she messes around, wouldn’t it just smoothly proceed according to the original story?
Just like Countess Lindsey, who spouts predetermined lines no matter what Summer says, wouldn’t others also perform predetermined actions and continue as fated?
“Yeah. Why should I care.”
A world that’s merely printed words. So what if it falls apart. Getting pointed at for breaking etiquette a bit? They’re not even alive anyway, so what’s the point of cursing.
I just want to go home. Ah, before going home, just meet Julian once.
“If I get an autograph…… could I take it home with me……”
Summer’s murmuring voice was thick with drowsiness. No. In the first place, can I even go home?
Even going abroad, there are countless things I don’t know, but I’ve ended up in a completely different world. I have no idea how to get out of here.
Summer soon couldn’t overcome the fatigue and fell asleep right there.
[This is the timeline separator]Perhaps about an hour after falling asleep, the window of Summer’s room cautiously opened.
At the cold air seeping through the open window, Summer lightly shivered her shoulders.
Summer, slowly waking from sleep, rubbed her still drowsy eyes hard. At that moment, something softly and warmly pressed down on Summer’s arm.
“Eek, ack!”
In an instant, sleep fled as Summer tumbled backward. There was quite a loud noise, but since it was an event not in the original story, no one came running.
Summer stared at the uninvited guest while still in her fallen position.
The uninvited guest who had opened the window and intruded was a pitch-black cat with mysterious purple eyes.
The moment she first saw that fellow, Summer thought of her family cat Coco back home.
“Co, Coco?”
“Sorry, but that’s not my name.”
Oh God. The cat spoke. It speaks human language. And very fluently at that. Summer quickly fled to the bed and curled up.
Then the cat leisurely licked its front paw, acting relaxed, before hopping down under the desk.
“Hello, Summer. It’s you, right? The child I’ve been looking for.”
“You…… know me?”
“Of course I do.”
The cat that reached in front of Summer suddenly raised its two front legs, and as its body gradually grew larger, it soon transformed into a human form.
Trending
The cat turned human had the appearance of a young girl with purple eyes and purple hair.
“Wh-who are you?”
When Summer asked in fear, the girl answered in a cheerful tone.
“Me? I’m the greatest witch in this world. You can call me Fay.”
The witch said proudly, puffing out her chest.
It was already surprising that a cat that appeared out of nowhere turned into a human, but her introducing herself as a witch and looking proud was even more astonishing.
“A witch?”
“Yes, poor soul who came to the wrong place.”
“Can you see my true form? We’re really talking right now, right? That’s it, right?”
At the witch’s words referring to her, Summer leaned forward as if about to jump out. This girl knows.
That Summer is a soul who mistakenly entered this world.
At Summer’s consecutive questions, the witch covered her ears before waving her hand once.
“What did you just do?”
“I cast a soundproofing spell. You never know who might hear.”
“Don’t worry. No one will come looking.”
Summer cast her eyes down with a bitter expression. The witch opened her mouth with an understanding look.
“Yes. That would be the case. The rules of this place are quite strict.”
“Did you…… come to save me?”
“Well, something like that. Summer, so do you want to return to your original world?”
“Of course! This place is too horrible!”
At Summer’s answer, the witch raised the corners of her mouth in satisfaction. For a moment, a chilly gleam flashed in her purple eyes.
“There is one way.”
The witch’s voice was enchanting, but the witch revealed under the moonlight exuded a cheerful yet suspicious atmosphere.
“You can trust me. I’m the greatest witch and the one who will save you.”
When the witch swung her hand once, a teapot and teacups appeared in the air.
The witch poured tea into the cups and began the story in an excited tone as if something very thrilling had happened.
“All the laws of nature have gone awry. I’ve been searching for the cause. Do you know what that cause is? It’s you! Summer Lindsey!”
The witch was more excited now than ever.
With just this one child, the laws and rules were broken. In the place where witches live, water suddenly flowed backward.
The moon rose during the day, and the sun at night. Clocks turned backward, then fast, operating erratically.
Even the dead began to move alive, and the living started to die.
To resolve this, the witch came to the filthy human land and wandered searching for the mistakenly entered soul.
“What should I do?”
That was Summer. The witch, calming her excitement, sipped her tea.
Summer Lindsey looked at the witch with eyes full of confusion before covering her face with both hands.
“You either fully accept this body, or return to your original world.”
At Summer’s behavior as if meeting a savior, the witch felt a bit soft-hearted. She must be confused. It was an event that even witches were flustered by.
To be in the midst of disrupted natural laws and not go mad until now was impressive.
“What will you do?”
Her voice naturally softened. At the witch’s question, Summer Lindsey slowly removed her hands.
What was revealed was ecstasy. The witch flinched her shoulders.
Summer Lindsey had a face grinning so widely it seemed eerie. Feeling a chill, the witch pulled her body back.
Has she already gone mad?
“I want to return to my original world!”
“You won’t regret it? This world is pretty livable.”
“I don’t need it. I absolutely have to go back.”
“Why on earth?”
Is this world that horrible? To the point of answering like that immediately?
The human possessed by the black-haired soul was a noble lady.
And a wealthy and stable one at that. Moreover, both parents were endlessly affectionate to their precious only daughter.

As a witch, she couldn’t even guess how great the original world was for her to answer like that despite this good environment.
“Why! There are no computers, no cell phones. In this world, there’s no my family, no friends, no damn acceptance letter! How much hell I went through to get that one piece of paper!”
“Wha…… what?”
What are those bizarre pronunciations. Summer’s voice battered her ears rapidly along with hard-to-understand words.
She didn’t know the rest, but she could fully feel that this soul hated this world.
She thought she had somewhat adapted and was living here. So this was the reason the body and soul hadn’t fused yet.
“A monarchy! I really hate it! How can I, who lived in the Republic of Korea, adapt to this kind of society! What if my head gets cut off. No, in the first place, why can a king arbitrarily cut heads? Why did I have to read this! I should have read a rom-com!”
She’s definitely gone mad. The witch shook her head slightly as if pitying her.
I need to quickly send this poor soul back to her original world.
While Summer panted and calmed her excitement, the witch hopped up and sat on the windowsill.
The witch dangled her legs and observed Summer Lindsey like a curious animal.
“I really want to go back……! Please, please, I can go back, right? That’s it, right? Sob, please tell me. How can I return to my original world?”
Summer, having calmed her excitement, was now sitting slumped and crying.
“She’s yelling alone and crying, what a fuss.”
Whether the black-haired soul had truly gone mad or not wasn’t her concern. The witch’s task was to restore this world to normal.
To the witch, the black-haired soul was, say, like a frog in a potion.
“Are you curious about the way to return?”
The witch raised the corners of her mouth as if it were tearing. Foolish human.
That night, the witch told Summer Lindsey the method. The only way to return to her original world.
