His bright smile was so splendid it was impossible to look away. With sunlight pouring over his head, he even seemed to glow with a halo.

She instantly flushed and hurriedly lowered her gaze. Oblivious to her fluster, Caliph teasingly spoke up.

“Was my saying I came out because I thought you might be taking a walk truly so moving? Your face, my Eve, looks just like a perfectly ripe apple.”

He couldn’t possibly be more mischievous. It was obvious why she’d blush at the sight of him—yet he had to point it out deliberately, making her uncomfortable in front of the maids. It was utterly infuriating.

Yet even amidst her irritation, Ibelia’s heart pounded wildly, shamelessly and without restraint. She desperately wanted to lift her head and deny it—even falsely—to save face, but she couldn’t even manage that.

Annoyed, she loosened her grip on the hand he held and squirmed to pull away. But there was no way she could overpower him.

“Oh dear, it seems my Eve is in a foul mood.”

“…Please stop teasing me.”

“Teasing? I merely said your face resembles an apple—that’s all.”

Despite her warning, Caliph wouldn’t cease his teasing. How could he possibly stop? To his eyes, she looked more endearing than anything else in the world.

Her frown deepened, clearly in a full sulk, and she jutted out her lips stubbornly, staring straight ahead. Her slightly puffed cheeks were clear proof of how thoroughly offended she was—and the more she pouted, the harder it became for Caliph to suppress his smile.

He tightened his grip on Ibelia’s limp hand and cheerfully spoke the words he’d prepared.

“Now that my Eve is so upset, how could I, as your husband, possibly stay idle?”

He uttered those cryptic words meaningfully, then began stepping toward the path she’d just walked. Held firmly by him, she had no choice but to match his stride, regardless of her will.

“Where are you going?”
