Despite Terot’s earnest tone, Gadro could not easily suppress his anger. He barked the command in a furious voice. But Terot didn’t so much as flinch.
“Your Majesty, Her Majesty the Empress spoke falsely. This matter was committed solely by my own reckless decision. Her Majesty knew nothing of it.”
“If she knew nothing, then why did the Empress herself claim to have given you the order?”
“She spoke falsely to protect me. Out of pity for me, Her Majesty merely told an untruth.”
Terot defended Eustia without so much as blinking, even as Gadro’s face twisted into a fearsome scowl.
She wasn’t afraid of the enraged Emperor. After all, with death already looming before her, what was there to fear from an Emperor who was, in the end, just another human like herself?
