Cheon Shin Ah smiled faintly as she heard the theory that “anomalous phenomena = another world.” Amid the explanation, which even incorporated string theory and included technical terms like wormholes, it felt as though she were listening to an alien language.

Kim Ye Ri, who had been listening quietly for a while, interjected.

“I don’t think that’s right. If it really were a phenomenon where spaces folded and overlapped…”

This person was also a graduate student, wasn’t she? Cheon Shin Ah stepped back and asked the others how the situation had unfolded. One was Michael’s mentor, while the other two had been unexpectedly caught up in the anomaly at the gaming event venue.

Upon closer inspection, they turned out to be Kim Ye Ri’s teammates from the PvP match.

However, they said five people in total had recklessly entered to investigate the gate.

“Hold on—if there were five investigators, where are the other three?”

“They’ve gone missing.”

“…That doesn’t sound like something you can say so casually.”

“They got so excited about the new discovery that they rushed ahead and…”

But if two had separated from the group of five, wouldn’t the lost ones number two, not three…? As she pondered this, Park Ha Young cautiously tugged at her sleeve.

“…Aside from them, I don’t sense anyone else nearby.”

Her whisper was just loud enough for Cheon Shin Ah’s ears alone. She sighed. It wasn’t for nothing that civilians had an abysmal survival rate in gates. Even if one simply waited quietly for rescue, the death rate was already high—wandering around investigating like this would kill nine out of ten.

She pressed her throbbing temples.

She couldn’t be sure how far Park Ha Young’s perception extended, but if he said no one else was nearby, they were probably already dead. In fact, if two of the five currently present hadn’t arrived, they might have died too.
