Crack! Lightning struck, and a flash of light swept past pink eyes. Had pink ever been this cold a color?

Irene hid her trembling fingers beneath the table and clenched them tightly.

“You—you’ve gone mad?!”

She even felt humiliated by Diana’s actions. Though frightened, Irene still held her head high.

I won’t just sit here and take this! She scanned the area, wanting nothing more than to slap Diana across the face, but even the maids and attendants seemed terrified of Diana.

Even the charm curse, instead of protecting its master, bowed its head. The curse couldn’t overcome fear.

“Oh dear, why are you shaking so much? It’s almost as if I frightened you.”

As her upturned eyes gently softened, her entire expression changed. The oppressive atmosphere vanished as if it had never existed.

When she touched the fork, it slid easily from the wooden table where it had been firmly embedded.

“I merely saw an insect perched before the young lady and removed it.”

It was true. Impaled on the fork was a perfectly intact bug. Still wriggling in its death throes, it seemed to be sending Irene a warning.

Your future will soon be just like this, it seemed to say. Irene forced herself to ignore it and spoke calmly.

“Hah! You sure make excuses well.”

“If you don’t believe me, then don’t.”

She lightly dropped the fork onto the floor. Yet no maid moved to pick it up.
