“But… why are we going to Viscount Raven’s house when he’s already been declared dead? His family must be busy with the funeral right about now… shouldn’t we be prioritizing other patients instead?”

I asked this while riding in the carriage with Ian and Count Perman, heading toward the Raven estate. Truthfully, when I first heard after Viscount Raven’s death that Count Perman and I were to visit the Raven household, I couldn’t help but tilt my head in confusion.

Naturally, during an epidemic, it’s common to examine deceased bodies to determine the cause—but once the funeral has already begun, inspecting the corpse becomes difficult, so physicians typically shift focus to treating living patients.

Several days had already passed since hearing of his death, so the funeral was likely underway. I worried that visiting the grieving family might only cause them further pain.

Count Perman smiled contentedly at my question. At first, his expression seemed proud, as if his student had asked an insightful question—but then he quickly glanced at Ian and erased the smile from his face. Nevertheless, he didn’t forget to answer my question.

“We need to verify with the family what kind of lifestyle the patient maintained.”

“I see. Indeed, the first patient certainly warrants closer examination.”

A smile reappeared on Count Perman’s face. He then asked me how I’d managed to become so knowledgeable about medicinal herbs.

Unable to tell him I’d once worked as an apothecary and awakened in another’s body, I simply replied that I’d always paid close attention to details and had a longstanding interest in herbs.

My conversation with Count Perman turned out to be quite enjoyable. At first, he kept glancing nervously at Ian, but after a while, he became thoroughly absorbed in discussing herbs and patients with me, forgetting his earlier hesitation.

Perhaps it was due to the preconceived notion I’d formed from what Grandfather had once told me—I’d assumed he was a lazy sort who wished to quit his post as Imperial Healer at the capital, despite possessing exceptional talent.

Yet, contrary to my expectations, he seemed genuinely passionate about healing. Apparently, becoming a renowned Imperial Healer wasn’t something just anyone could achieve.

“Come to think of it, I once treated a patient who couldn’t wake from sleep.”

“Really? Then that person might have been the very first case. How is that patient doing now?”

He asked me eagerly, his excitement evident.

After Being Cheated On, She Picked Up a Treasure (Female-dominant)

One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.

On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.

Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.

News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.

Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.

But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.

The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.

The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”

So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.

She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.

*

After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.

Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.

Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.

She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.

“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”
