After the troops left to deal with Wave, the first thing Bianca did was follow Alex’s advice and shut the castle gates.

“Since the Wave defensive line has formed relatively close by, the safety of the main castle won’t be as secure as before.”

Bianca was fairly clear-eyed and level-headed about her own capabilities.

If this were some covert social battle, she might have been useful—but she knew full well that in a brute-force conflict like Wave, she wouldn’t be of any help at all.

Bianca readily accepted Alex’s words.

“Please close all the doors.”

Only a minimal number of people remained in Valroc’s main castle, so when it came time to shut the gates, everyone except Bianca and Julie—who hadn’t fully recovered yet—was mobilized.

After about an hour of hard work, nearly every door and window in the castle was firmly sealed.

All that remained was the window on the fourth floor.

“This won’t do if we just leave it closed. It’d be better to cover it with planks and seal it shut.”

At Alex’s words, thick wooden planks were immediately placed over the window.

Bang, bang—the sound of hammering steadily dimmed the light until it grew dark, prompting Bianca and Julie to quickly light some lamps.

“If only we’d done this earlier—then the wyverns wouldn’t have gotten in.”

At Bianca’s regretful remark, Alex gave a small smile.

“If we seal it like this, they won’t enter the ducal castle, but they might fly off toward the villagers’ homes instead.”
