I already knew that after announcing Diane as my long-lost daughter, several of my retainers had secretly held an unauthorized meeting.

I had already uncovered everything—the conversations exchanged that day and even the list of those who had attended.

In the midst of this, a secret letter arrived from Count Ripe.

The initials at the end matched Count Ripe’s. The myrrh sent along with the letter surely wasn’t included without reason; the flower language of myrrh meant “truth.”

Though the note was brief, they instantly understood what the count was implying—he would provide them with the names of those who attended the meeting and the information exchanged during it.

They had already been gathering intelligence on their own, aiming to deal first with the retainers who suspected Diane. Now, Count Ripe had proactively approached them, offering precisely that information.

Of course, they had no intention of revealing that they already possessed this knowledge.

Yet Kyleius remained puzzled.

Why would a count who had constantly found fault with him suddenly volunteer to do something so clearly detrimental to himself? The role the count proposed was that of a double agent.

If exposed, it would only tarnish his own honor and credibility.

“I’ll look into it, but I doubt our side’s information has leaked, my lord.”

Seeing Kyleius remain silent after reading the letter, Philen cautiously ventured a remark.

“It doesn’t seem like a leak. Perhaps the count simply noticed something.”

Philen subtly hinted at another possibility. Kyleius, trusting Philen’s thorough nature, also believed it wasn’t a leak.

Yet the latter possibility didn’t seem entirely reliable either.
