It feels like I’ve been running for days.

We didn’t stop the carriage except for lunch and finding lodging at night until we reached the midpoint between Waince and the capital.

Yet, even after all these days, we received no word from either the Waince branch or the capital.

Bettie checks in with the branch office at every city we pass through… but…

With each city we leave behind, my unease grows deeper, and Leopric, who rode with me in the carriage, instructed the driver to go even faster.

But even that has its limits.

I couldn’t stop letting out long sighs every day.

“Still no word, Your Highness. Neither Hailey nor Branch Manager Jennifer has sent any message.”

“How long has it been since we left Waince?”

“Tomorrow will be our third day. Even if the capital hasn’t responded, Waince should have contacted us by now.”

We had just finished washing up when we arrived at the lodging.

It was dark outside, and Leopric had left the drivers to confirm tomorrow’s route.

Bettie, still damp from her bath, gently combed my hair as she let out a quiet sigh.

I, too, remained silent, letting my body rest in her hands, lost in thought.

“Could it really take this long to verify Lloyd’s movements in Waince?”
