Please Marry My Son (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
“What is this nonsense—!”
“It’ll only take a moment.”
She stared at him expressionlessly as he rudely grabbed her arm and pulled her away.
His expression was rather cold, so Callen panicked and tightened his grip—but Alicia surprisingly held firm, neither intimidated nor cowed.
“Do you even know how long I’ve been waiting? So just let me talk for a moment—.”
“Let go of that.”
Earlier, he’d at least tried to maintain some decorum, but now that she’d clearly shown her refusal, his wounded pride made him stubborn.
“If you don’t let go right now, you’ll regret it.”
“It’ll only take a moment. If you act too aloof, it’ll cause trouble for you too. After all, I am a member of a marquess’s household—.”
“I don’t usually like getting involved in other people’s affairs, but—.”
She turned her head at the sudden voice.
Eric, who had been leaning against the wall waiting for William, continued in a bored tone.
“Do you really have to do this?”
She’d planned to stay quiet and leave quietly, but it seemed trouble was unavoidable after all.
Though, contrary to expectations, he was the one starting it.
“It’s so embarrassing to watch—frankly, even as another man, I’m ashamed for you.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Who even are you?”
“I’ll pass on answering. I don’t particularly want to get acquainted with you.”
“What?”
“For now, just let go of that hand.”
Eric pointed at the hand gripping hers and urged him to release it.
“Mind your own business and get lost. Do you even know who I am?”
“Don’t ask things like that. Didn’t I just say I don’t want to get acquainted? Are you really that forgetful?”
Grumbling as if he had no choice, Eric stepped closer—and the man, overwhelmed by his presence, flinched and let go of Alicia’s arm.
“You should go now.”
He didn’t want the lady to unnecessarily thank him or ask for his name, nor did he want any further entanglements afterward.
“Thank you. Then I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Alicia left without a trace of hesitation, departing in a hurry—which struck Eric as slightly absurd, yet oddly amusing, and he chuckled softly.
Then he turned toward Callen.
“Well then.”
“What the hell? Who even are you?”
Callen, still flustered but clinging to some shred of pride, squirmed under Eric’s gaze as Eric pondered what to do—when Prince William cheerfully emerged holding a bottle of brandy.
“Eric, sorry! Did you wait long?”
“Was there a whole group of them? Cowards. And who are you?”
“Me?”
William glanced between Eric and Callen, then grinned knowingly as if he understood the situation.
“My name’s William.”
“Who asked for your name? I asked what you do.”
“Oh, my occupation? If I must say, I’m a prince.”
“…What?”
“What? Did you really not know? Eric, you don’t recognize me?”
“Should everyone in the kingdom know you, by chance?”
“Still, any noble should at least know the basics, right? Oh—wait, you’re not a noble, are you?”
“Hmm. Now that you mention it, your behavior isn’t exactly dignified.”
“Oh, so you’re not nobility. Then it’s understandable you wouldn’t know. In fact, it might be better if nobles never knew you at all.”
Callen’s face turned deathly pale.
Today’s luck was truly the worst he’d ever had.
Not only had he been rejected without even getting a proper word in, but now a prince had appeared.
And that damn man, casually chatting with the prince—his identity nagged at Callen’s mind, just out of reach.
‘Did he say Eric earlier? If it’s the Eric who personally accompanies the prince… could it be that Earl Eric Russell?’

Instinctively realizing that fleeing now was the only way to save his life, he bowed deeply.
“I—I apologize for the intrusion!”
Then he immediately bolted backward.
Once his fleeing figure vanished completely from sight, William finally asked Eric,
“What was that about?”
“Nothing much. He was harassing some lady, so I said a few words.”
“He really was pathetic—not even recognizing a prince. Truly, the future of this country looks bleak.”
William grinned and lifted his wine bottle.
“Speaking of which, how about another consoling drink for the prince who’ll bear this bleak future?”
“…Haven’t you had enough already?”
“I barely drank anything—thanks to you rushing me.”
“Well, if you’d just stayed in the palace, you could’ve comfortably had more. Instead, you wasted time running back and forth for nothing.”
“Not at all. If we’d stayed in the palace, an innocent lady might’ve been in serious trouble. We got fresh air, enjoyed good wine, and saved a lady—three birds with one stone.”
“I still don’t understand why I have to clean up after your ‘three birds with one stone.’”
Seeing Eric’s exasperated expression, William feigned seriousness.
“Hey, control your expression. I was the one who ultimately resolved the conflict, right? You should be grateful.”
“Just get in the carriage already.”
Sounding resigned, Eric spoke—and William happily climbed into the carriage.
“By the way, who was that woman?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did she ask who you were?”
“No, she didn’t.”
“Huh? Usually in these situations, people ask who you are, thank you, and that becomes the start of a connection—something like that, right?”
“Is this a novel? That’s such a clichéd, overused trope it’s embarrassing to even consider.”
“…Am I the weird one, or are you?”
“What does it matter? Trying to force that kind of connection is the weird part.”
Frowning, he stared at William.
“Alright, alright. It was my mistake for asking you about women. My bad.”
William quickly gave up and shook his head.
More important than that was properly wrapping up this golden day—the first time in months he could relax and enjoy himself.
[This is the timeline separator]Inside the carriage, Alicia smoothed out her sleeve, wrinkled from being grabbed.
She’d tried to finish her errand quickly tonight since she had to work at the dressmaker’s starting tomorrow—but that haste seemed to have brought her nothing but bad luck.
‘Who was he, anyway? Security staff?’
She knew most of the salon’s staff, but since she usually visited only during the day, she might not be recognized by the night security personnel who dealt with drunken patrons.
“Oh, come to think of it—back in the rear corridor earlier.”
She’d only seen his back, but recalling his attire, she was certain it was the same staff member who’d nearly bumped into the door.
“He was awfully harsh toward a noble. Will he be alright? What if he faces retaliation?”
Still, it was fortunate she hadn’t revealed her name—she’d clearly thought ahead about how to extricate herself.
If Callen filed a complaint with the salon later, the staff member might even get fired.
Worried, she decided she’d write Madame a letter explaining the situation—and if possible, deliver her thanks in person.
[This is the timeline separator]Unlike her son, who moved about freely, the Duchess of Gloucester had secluded herself in the ducal residence for quite some time.
Overwhelmed by suffocation, she briefly stepped out—and by chance encountered the very lady who’d arranged the recent gathering at the salon.
Under that lady’s glare, which seemed to say, “You shameless woman! To cause such a scandal and then strut around like you’ve done something right? Can’t even keep your own son in check—I can’t even look at your family anymore!”—the Duchess couldn’t even lift her head and fled home like a fugitive.
Of course, no one would dare say such things outright to the wife of the Duke of Gloucester, a distinguished imperial noble.
“My fate, indeed.”
The Head Maid silently prepared a warm cup of tea for the groaning Duchess.
“Why did I ever walk around so proudly after giving birth to that child?”
She’d given up on having children, so receiving a son late in life had filled her with such joy—how dearly she’d cherished and doted on him.

She’d known children rarely followed their parents’ wishes, but she never imagined it could go this badly—and now, in her later years, she was experiencing it firsthand.
At the Duchess’s weary sigh, the Head Maid wordlessly poured more tea into her cup.
One wrong word here, and the Duchess would burst into tears and start lamenting—meaning the Head Maid’s timely departure would be ruined.
“How about visiting the dressmaker’s?”
“With that son of mine, I won’t have any reason to go out and wear new clothes anyway.”
“Still, my lady—you’ll fall into depression at this rate. You need some fresh air.”
“I suppose so.”
The Duchess, normally so active and sociable, had been cooped up in the ducal residence for over ten days. No wonder she felt stifled—and so the Head Maid carefully offered her suggestion.
After a brief hesitation, the Duchess reluctantly rose slowly from the sofa.
[This is the timeline separator]“Oh my! It’s been so long since you’ve come out!”
Madame of the dressmaker’s greeted the Duchess of Gloucester with cheerful excitement.
“Yes, it has been quite a while.”
“What would you like to see today?”
“I thought I’d order a few casual outfits. Though I’m not sure I’ll even get to wear them.”
The last part was mumbled too softly to hear clearly—but Madame, already informed by other ladies who frequented the salon, didn’t press further.
“We’ve just received some new fabrics—would you like to see them?”
“Yes, please.”
While Madame gave instructions to her staff, the Duchess leaned back comfortably against the sofa.
Every outing used to be torture because of that wretched son—but today, feeling genuinely welcomed for the first time in ages, her mood lifted.
Soon, a staff member began laying out several fabric samples on the table.
“Oh my, what lovely colors! Which design would suit you best?”
“I’ll show you our design book. Just a moment.”
As Madame stood up, a knock sounded at the door.
“Come in.”
“Madame. I’ve finished.”
The door opened, and a lady entered—she looked like staff, yet didn’t quite seem like one.
It was Alicia.
“Oh my! Really? Thank you so much.”
“You’re very welcome.”
The Duchess studied her with curious eyes as Alicia smiled gently.
For someone supposedly on staff, the lady carried herself with far too much grace and elegance.
“Then, would next week at this time work for you?”
“Yes, certainly. I’ll come next week.”
Their eyes met as Alicia turned to leave.
The Duchess offered an awkward smile—and Alicia returned a kind one.
She was so beautiful that even someone normally unsmiling would feel drawn to her.
“I’m sorry for interrupting your conversation.”
Her polite bow and graceful departure displayed impeccable manners—so perfect, in fact, that even the socially seasoned Duchess found it flawless.
“Oh dear! Look at me—I forgot to bring the design book.”
“Madame, forget the design book for now. Who is that young lady? Staff?”
“Oh my! Staff? She’s the daughter of the Earl of Lancaster. She’s so clever—we rely on her help greatly.”
“The Earl of Lancaster has such a daughter? I’ve never seen her in society.”
“The Countess hasn’t been well, so she rarely attends events. And the Earl is currently abroad for an extended period.”
“I see.”
Thinking she might not have heard the rumors about Eric properly, the Duchess’s lips involuntarily curled into a wide grin.
“She seems like a truly fine young lady. Someone like her must already be promised, surely.”
“Promised? She’s far too busy with work to care about that.”
“I see.”
“I’ve lost count of how many proposals I’ve received on her behalf—but she refuses them so firmly, it’s like an impenetrable fortress.”

But the Duchess wasn’t listening to Madame anymore—or rather, she couldn’t hear her.
‘No wonder I felt such a strong urge to go out today. Fate truly works in mysterious ways. Now then—.’
A plan swiftly formed in her mind—and her eyes began to sparkle brightly.
“No point in delaying. I’ll act right away.”

I love how they interact with each other. They feel at ease together.
Hahaha. The butler’s perfect timing. And Erik hiding his face.
Maybe I’m really wrong about it, but I think Alicia has something to do with what happened ten years ago and maybe her father is the leader of that group.
