Please Break Up with Me, I Beg! (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
It seemed less like regret and more like a mild surprise.
“But I just saved you from falling off a cliff.”
“Yes, thank you. I’ll leave now so as not to trouble you further.”
Litania turned sharply and strode away. Even if the forest was vast, since it connected to the castle grounds, following the ravine to the square wouldn’t be difficult.
When she returned to the summer palace, she resolved, this time she would truly hide as if dead.
But then.
“…Pfft.”
From behind, Orbis let out a laugh. Glancing back, she saw him following closely behind.
“Why are you following me?”
“I’m just walking. I’m heading back to the clearing.”
“Don’t you know a woman feels threatened when a large man like you trails after her?”
“Since I’m no gentleman, I simply don’t feel the need to be considerate.”
The amusement in Orbis’s voice echoed the very words Litania had spoken, and she scowled.
“That reptile isn’t unpredictable—he’s just fundamentally broken!”
Thinking again that staying distant was best, Litania widened the gap between them.
As the sun began to set, warm golden light spilled over the narrow ravine. Their two footsteps stretched long like shadows.
[This is the timeline separator]The story goes back several days.
“Litania… at the hunt?”
“If the Emperor commands it, refusal isn’t an option.”
Even a dragon’s command couldn’t be refused. The Emperor thought this but didn’t voice it.
“Even if not at the hunt, if the Dragon Lord wishes it, we can arrange a meeting.”
“No. That would burden Litania.”
Orbis shook his head slightly.
“She seeks natural encounters, so meeting by chance at the hunt would be less forced—and better.”
The Emperor wanted to say that even this request was already far too forced, but once again, he stayed silent.
“I must have been hasty. It’s hard to gauge the right pace for humans. No matter how many times I try.”
“If the Dragon Lord wishes to take Litania…”
“Oh, ‘take’? That’s not an appropriate term.”
As Orbis tapped the armrest with the tip of his white glove, the attendant filled his empty cup with tea and stepped back. The tea in the Emperor’s cup across from him had not been touched since being poured.
“For now, I intend to proceed step by step.”
“By ‘step’—”
“Yes. In human terms.”
A cherished memory surfaced. Orbis smiled faintly as he gently traced his left ring finger.
“Romance, wasn’t it?”
[This is the timeline separator]Recalling his conversation with the Emperor, Orbis narrowed his eyes and watched Litania’s back.
She was straining as if dragging an extra burden—desperate to hurry forward, yet slowed by him.
“I could have just asked once more, and she would have agreed.”
Orbis could have easily carried her safely and swiftly to the square.
For a dragon, moving a human was trivial. He had genuinely intended to help—until he saw her flustered face looking up at him, and found it endearing.
“I’ve never seen that expression before.”
All he’d ever seen was her pale, fearful face. Litania’s flustered look was unexpectedly charming.
They say immature humans derive joy from tormenting those they like—suddenly, he understood why such odd behavior occurred.
The very look she’d given him—accusing him of not being a gentleman—filled him with such delight his fingertips tingled.
“Litania.”
As he softly called her name, her shoulders trembled noticeably as she walked on without speaking.
“I had no intention of threatening you.”
“I know. Thank you for saving me.”
Litania replied mechanically and resumed walking—more vigorously than before. Anyone watching might have thought she was competing in a speed-walking contest, not a hunt.
Trending
From afar came the sound of horns and baying hounds.
Litania instinctively sensed they were nearing the hunting grounds, and her steps grew lighter.
She moved forward almost as if running. Orbis briefly thought she might stumble, but she effortlessly leapt over small rocks like a rabbit.
“Pfft.”
Orbis laughed again. Once more, Litania glanced back at him.
“You’re quite the hunter, Litania.”
“…You’re certainly no gentleman, Orbis.”
It had been meant as praise, yet she flushed as if insulted, scowled, and dashed toward the hunting grounds.
“The finest hunt is one where the prey never realizes it’s been caught.”
Orbis lightly bit the tip of his white glove.
“You’ve performed the ultimate hunt, Litania.”
[This is the timeline separator]“Damn!”
Crown Prince Perus hurled his quiver aside with a curse.
“Still haven’t found her?”
“Don’t lose your temper. What’s with the outburst, brother?”
Princess Herna answered indifferently as she unstrapped her hunting gear. Prince Baphor watched alternately between his brother and sister, restless and uneasy.
The hunt had failed. No—the entire hunt had become a disaster.
Perus’s accidental loss of the black panther was trivial. But hearing Litania’s scream from where the panther fled was not.
When they found the exhausted black panther collapsed at the cliff’s edge, Perus’s heart sank.
He feared the panther had devoured her. He slit its belly open—thankfully, nothing was inside.
So he assumed she’d fallen from the cliff and sent men to search below—but found nothing.
“If she was swept away by water and even her body can’t be found…”
“It’s not unheard of for someone to die during a hunt. Why all this uproar over one commoner’s death?”
“The Emperor himself sent her! If she dies, it’s a major incident!”
Prince Baphor retorted, eyes wide at his sister’s indifference.
For a noble princess to be ignored was one thing; for her to die was entirely different.
The former was natural in a class-based aristocracy; the latter would be seen as the imperial family’s failure to protect even a single adopted daughter.
And if the Emperor’s own adopted daughter was harmed by a panther Perus had let escape?
The moment suspicion arose that Perus had deliberately released the prey to kill her, the entire imperial family would suffer disgrace.
“But we searched the entire Black Forest and found nothing. It’s your fault you lost the panther—why should we bear it too?”
“Sister, who’s at fault isn’t the point right now…”
“You’re not even trying hard to find her, are you? If you asked Dragon Lord Orbis, finding her body would be easy.”
“Don’t even speak that monster’s name!”
At the mention of Orbis’s name, Perus shouted furiously and stormed out of the tent.
Princess Herna finally fell silent, relieved, and removed her hat from the map spread on the table. She disliked seeing the countless X marks on it.
Prince Baphor hesitated—should he reprimand his sister, or chase after his brother? He stood anxiously, staring at the entrance of the tent.
“Huh?”
Through the fluttering fabric of the tent, he glimpsed a familiar silhouette. Dressed in jet-black riding attire, utterly out of place at the hunting grounds. The prince rushed forward and yanked open the tent flap.
“You! You—!”
“Hmm?”
“Weren’t you dead?”
Litania, startled by the prince suddenly bursting out and pointing at her, frowned slightly at his next words.
‘Has he crossed a line? Did he skip proper etiquette lessons?’
But she was too weary to correct his tone.
Since he clearly knew she’d vanished from the hunt, she felt she had to answer.
She sighed and looked away.
“I got lost and wandered a bit, then had an accident.”
“You weren’t bitten by the black panther? How are you still unharmed?”
“I wasn’t bitten. I fell off the cliff, but luckily…”

Litania entered the tent to inform the siblings of her safety, then fell silent upon seeing Princess Herna lounging on the makeshift bed beside the table.
She had a feeling mentioning Dragon Lord Orbis’s name would only cause more trouble. She quickly mumbled an excuse.
“…I was lucky.”
“We thought our hearts would drop.”
It wasn’t concern for Litania—it was fear of the Emperor’s wrath—but Prince Baphor understood the gravity of the situation and fell silent.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.

I hope she learns her lesson from that day and doesn’t think about entering the tower
Umm, things have gotten even more embarrassing. I don’t know what to say. (T∀T)
Their relationship has developed fairly well and smoothly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they truly fell in love, but I’m afraid something bad might happen at the festival.
