A slender white finger clutched Orbis’s robe tightly. He pulled her into his arms, shielding her vision, and instantly transported them to his chamber.

The solid stone floor beneath his feet made her finally lift her head. Her face remained pale as her lips trembled, and a large hand gently cradled her cheek.

“I’m sorry, Litania. I was reckless.”

“Oh, Orbis. I… .”

“It’s alright. You won’t fall into the water again, so don’t be afraid.”

With his calm voice soothing her, sensation returned to her frozen fingertips. Her erratic breaths slowly returned to normal.

“Were you terribly frightened?”

“… .”

The moment she recognized the deep water beneath her, she remembered falling into the river with Herna’s hands around her throat—her body froze instantly.

She had jumped into the river on purpose to escape being strangled, but recalling the crushing pressure of the cold water made her gasp for air.

She remembered how, even while screaming underwater, only gurgling sounds emerged, unable to convey her will.

“I didn’t realize you’d be this afraid. I’m sorry.”

“I… didn’t know either. I thought it would be fine.”

She knew it wasn’t a flowing river but a reservoir, that it was daytime, not night, that she hadn’t been on a boat—and that Orbis was with her, so she couldn’t possibly drown.

Yet, simply being placed in the midst of such vast, deep water revived the memory, filling her with fear.
