Camille and Roxy pushed open the door to their father Jonathan’s laboratory and entered.

Jonathan’s face twisted in rage, flushed red with fury.

Outside the old, chipped window, the sun crept toward noon.

It would soon be time for the village market to open. Today’s market was a grand event where merchants from the southern regions gathered to sell their local specialties.

For Jonathan, long dismissed as a quack healer, today was especially important.

He had made every possible preparation to prove the Delcinq family’s healing power to the local nobles and village elders.

Jonathan glared at the small cage tucked in the corner of the lab.

The creature, which should have been lying there groaning in pain, was gone.

The lamb he’d caught in the forest yesterday and deliberately broken its leg was missing.

Arabella, who should have returned from the fields late that morning, was missing as well.

“It’s definitely that girl again—she must have taken the lamb to the hills behind the estate.”

“Stealing even the medicine bottles from the shelf before running off! Just wait until we catch her!”
