The Emperor’s brows furrowed slightly as he received the results of the second contest.

“The winner is Lady Grace of House Lecain.”

Counselor Kael continued speaking, watching the Emperor carefully, who kept his eyes closed and gave no reaction.

“Today’s theme was a still life depicting the flowers and fruits arranged in the vase on the table. It was an extremely favorable contest for Lady Grace, who has studied under Professor Belpoey, a master of the art world for many years.”

The Emperor remained silent, tapping the tips of his long fingers against the table, lost in thought.

Counselor Kael mouthed something to Deputy Chief Secretary Antonio, who hesitated before finally speaking.

“The young ladies’ works are scheduled to be exhibited tomorrow along the corridor of the Imperial Palace’s Second Gallery. However… um, Counselor, we saw the works being moved from the contest hall earlier… so, um…”

Antonio shot Kael a pleading look, but Kael deliberately turned his head away.

Antonio took a deep breath, exhaled sharply, squeezed his eyes shut, and spoke.

“Our concern is that Lady Arabella’s work is so utterly different in style from the others.”

Calling it “different in style” was a generous euphemism… In truth, Lady Arabella’s painting was embarrassingly poor compared to the other candidates, who had honed their skills under renowned artists since childhood.

Honestly, upon first seeing Arabella’s piece, neither Kael nor Antonio had imagined she’d even attempted to paint the flowers and fruits arranged on the table. Kael had assumed she’d drawn a dragon breathing fire, while Antonio thought she’d depicted a snake swallowing a frog.

The judges, too, appeared thoroughly bewildered. It was obvious that displaying her work alongside the others would only bring her disgrace.

The Emperor, who had been sitting quietly, tapping his long fingers against the table, opened his eyes to reveal ruby-red irises.
