People Aren't Meant to Be Fixed! (4 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 91
“Something fun?”
“Yes!”
I stared at Beris with a look that clearly asked what kind of mischief he was plotting now.
Just moments ago, he’d been spinning wildly around the newly redecorated, blue-themed reception room, holding hands with Ronowe and circling Poppy in the center. Now, as soon as the pastries arrived, he’d darted off with a joyful whoop.
His retreating back reminded me so much of his three-year-old self—utterly wild and reckless—that it felt like time hadn’t passed at all.
Anyway, Beris acted as if his recent antics had happened ages ago. Without warning, he thrust Poppy into Ronowe’s arms, plopped himself onto the nearest sofa, grabbed a cookie, sniffed it, and then wore the expression of someone who had just embraced all the happiness the world could offer.
‘How can I ever understand him?’
I was startled watching Beris sniffing the cookie like that.
Hadn’t he grown past such childish behavior?
At the same time, I suddenly recalled how he used to play with dough back then, when he was three. Insisting it was “tactile play,” he’d knead it wildly with his hands until it became too gross to eat, even after baking.
He wasn’t doing that exact thing now, so why did I feel such a strong sense of déjà vu?
‘Back then, he’d even pick up cookies that had fallen on the floor—who knows what else he’d try.’
Though I’d seen this many times, it never failed to puzzle and intrigue me.
On the surface, it was just a child delighting over tasty treats, yet I couldn’t fathom how such pure, unfiltered joy arose in a little one’s heart. Was it anything like the pleasure I felt eating meat? No—somehow it felt entirely different.
After all, meat was just a matter of taste preference. Wasn’t that inherently different?
