Beris soon started crawling on the ground, and Ronowe followed after him, only to later declare that Beris should play the role of a foal while she herself would become a gallant knight.

“Run faster!”

“Neeeiiigh! Neigh!”

Since it was I who had been “thoroughly” startled, I couldn’t really blame the children for anything. Yet, despite observing them closely for quite some time, neither Ronowe nor Beris showed any sign of unusual behavior, making me wonder if I’d called them over for nothing.

I felt foolish—just moments ago, I had been reading about demons in the study room with such seriousness.

“That one’s just an idiot, isn’t she?”

Still, if I hadn’t called them over and confirmed it with my own eyes, I’d have kept weighing that “possibility” alone in my mind. Sighing, I motioned for Lilith to come closer.

“Hey, lend me your ear for a moment.”

I then whispered into Lilith’s ear. We weren’t alone, and some eavesdroppers had alarmingly sharp hearing, so I had to speak softly to avoid being overheard.

“Their names match those of the demons you showed me in that book earlier.”

Feeling a wave of disappointment, I paused before adding,

“But no matter how I look at them, they’re just ordinary children.”

Lilith, who had bent down to listen to me, glanced briefly at Ronowe and Beris, then fell into thought for a few seconds before opening her lips.

“All beings in this world inherently possess power within their names. This is especially true for those closest to God.”
