By the next morning, Ariante had fortunately regained her energy and was laughing and chattering as usual.

She did cause a minor accident—playfully teasing Beinti, who had brought water for washing and morning grooming, and accidentally overturning the basin—but she no longer threw tantrums or stubbornly refused to wear the clothes brought to her as she used to.

Ever since Meiana had removed all the constricting corsets and other undergarments, Ariante happily wore any outfit with ease.

“Blue! I like the blue ribbon!”

Each time Ariante jumped up and down in place, her shimmering golden hair swayed up and down like dancing. Beinti, holding a ribbon in each hand and alternating between them, pouted and said,

“Blue? My Lady, in my opinion, this white one would look much prettier with that dress.”

“No! Blue is prettier! Give me the blue ribbon! Hurry!”

“Oh, oh! All right, I’ll give it to you! But don’t pull on the dress!”

Grumbling, Beinti tied Ariante’s hair with the blue ribbon just as she wanted. She loosely braided the wavy locks on either side, coiled them into a round bun in the center, and fastened it with the ribbon—it looked utterly adorable.

The reason for Ariante’s excitement that morning was nothing else: Meiana had decided to take her to the village within the duchy. Just the thought of going out for fun thrilled her, and when she heard they’d even have breakfast in the village, Ariante nearly screamed with joy.

“My Lady, are you all ready?”

Meiana, now dressed for going out, peeked through the doorway. The moment Beinti’s hands, busy smoothing Ariante’s hem, dropped away, Ariante dashed toward Meiana as if afraid she’d be left behind.

Beinti spoke up.

“The village’s dining places probably aren’t very clean.”

Meiana nodded knowingly. Beinti frowned suspiciously as she watched Meiana slip something into the inner pocket of her light jacket.
