Last night, Meiana said this to Beinti.

[“I’ll be accompanying the young lady tomorrow and will be away during the day. In the meantime, make sure you really get under Grete’s skin.”]

[“What? Get under her skin? What exactly am I supposed to do?”]

Meiana took a brief breath. For a moment, even she couldn’t help feeling conflicted. It was an idea that had come to her on the spur of the moment—after all, just a few days ago, she hadn’t harbored even the slightest suspicion toward Grete. She’d never even imagined she’d end up setting a trap to catch her……

[“Just tell Grete alone that you heard the young lady say she wished I’d become her mother.”]

[“What? Are you insane……!”]

Meiana covered Beinti’s mouth and gestured for her to be quiet.

[“Beinti, if everything you’ve told me is true, then this much is necessary to make Grete lose her composure. Understand?”]

[“Well… so what next? Am I just supposed to say that and leave it at that?”]

[“No. Casually mention that somewhere in the young lady’s room, there’s a gift meant for both Duke and me. For Grete to search the young lady’s room, both the young lady and I need to be away. We’ll leave after breakfast and return before lunch. With the young lady absent, Grete won’t have much else to do—she’ll definitely search the room.”]

[“And if she doesn’t?”]

Beinti asked skeptically. But after a brief silence, Meiana replied.

[“She will. And even if she doesn’t act tomorrow, she’ll eventually do something that exposes her.”]

Meiana quietly recalled that conversation, lost deep in thought…… So absorbed was she that she didn’t notice Sediloi looking at her with a puzzled expression, nor did she hear him calling her name.

A sharp snap of fingers sounded. Then Sediloi’s loud voice rang out.
