The wind blew again. Feeling the coolness on her forehead lifted Meiana’s spirits. She stretched her legs out, yawned, closed her eyes, and tilted her head back.

“My Lord Duke, you’re always going off to El Lautica. What should I do when you’re not here? Should I just grab Head Maid Joslyn by the scruff of her neck and hold on until you return? At her age, she’d probably suffocate and die.”

“I won’t be going to the capital for a while.”

Meiana opened her eyes and lifted her head slightly to look at him.

“You mean you’ll stay within your duchy for now?”

Sediloi nodded. He picked up a small stone at his feet and tossed it toward the pond. With a soft *plunk*, the stone sank.

“Now that I’m looking after two children—Ariante and Swan—I’ve been granted permission to take a short rest. Most of the diplomatically important matters have been resolved as well.”

After a brief silence, Meiana replied.

“That’s wonderful news. Her Ladyship will be absolutely delighted.”

Sediloi suddenly laughed soundlessly.

“Now that I think about it, your words were remarkably fitting.”

“What do you mean?”

“About Joslyn. You said she’d developed an illness she never had before because she couldn’t turn you into a wanton woman. Her complexion looked truly awful. I hadn’t summoned her in a while, nor seen her up close… For a moment, I thought I was looking at someone else.”

Meiana gave a mocking smile, her expression clearly saying she could easily imagine it.

“If I were a heartless person, I might have let Head Maid Joslyn have her way. What a pity it didn’t work out for her.”
