The dawn that had filled the bedroom vanished in the early morning.

Half-asleep, Lily reached for the spot beside her and opened her eyes at the strangely warm, firm, yet soft sensation.

It didn’t feel like a pillow… What was it?

As her blurry vision cleared, the first thing she saw was a cascade of jet-black hair, calm and still.

Her lips curved into a gentle smile as she took in his long lashes—unusually long for a man—his straight nose, thin but full lips, and even the scar beneath his jaw.

“Harold.”

Her smile deepened as she whispered the name of the one she loved. At the same time, her head tilted slightly in confusion—Harold hadn’t been beside her when she fell asleep.

He must have come back very late last night again.

Lately, Harold had been leaving home before eight in the morning and returning past midnight. There were even times he came back just before dawn.

She’d heard the issue with the Second Prince was nearly resolved, yet he still seemed incredibly busy. After all, even if he’d managed to topple the tower he’d painstakingly built, the rubble remained—and clearing it all would take considerable time.

Still, it would be good if he could rest properly for a day or two.

It had already been nearly a month of constant activity, and she felt sorry for him. The dark circles under his eyes had grown deeper, and his face looked thinner, making her heart ache even more.

Yet, somehow, he remained undeniably handsome through it all.

Lily watched Harold’s still, deeply sleeping face for a while before slowly sitting up. Contrary to appearances, he had a sensitive disposition and light sleep—if she rustled even slightly, he’d wake immediately—so she moved with utmost care.

Apparently exhausted, Harold didn’t stir even as Lily put on her robe and left the bedroom.
