Harold sent Emily out on an errand as soon as she came out after changing her clothes. As soon as the fitting room attendant emerged, having assisted Lily with her outfit change, the dressmaker took her and left the shop. Before leaving, she didn’t forget to flip the sign on the door to [Closed].

“Where’s Emily? Is she still changing?”

“No. She came out earlier, but I sent her on an errand.”

“What errand?”

At her question, Harold merely smiled without answering, set down his teacup, and stood up. He walked over to Lily and straightened the slightly crooked ribbon at her waist.

“It suits you well.”

It was his way of saying not to ask anything further. Normally, Lily would have let it go, assuming there must be a good reason—but not this time. The flames of suspicion, ignited by her recent heated argument with Frederick, hadn’t yet died down.

Don’t take your frustration out on someone who doesn’t deserve it. Lily took a deep breath, suppressing the flickering suspicion threatening to leap off in the wrong direction.

“You seem displeased with the outfit.”

Misinterpreting her expression as dissatisfaction with the clothes, Harold started toward the wardrobe again, prompting Lily to hurriedly grab his arm.

“I love it! How could I dislike something you picked out for me?”

She blurted out her sincerity so plainly that she flinched and quickly clamped her mouth shut. In contrast, Harold smiled so deeply that dimples formed.

“I’m glad you like it. Would you like to try something else on?”
