At the same moment Lily and Harold were talking in the garden.

Frederick was with Earl Stacy in the lounge on the second floor of the banquet hall. The earl had brought him here, claiming he had something important to discuss.

Frederick immediately guessed he would meet “that person” the earl had mentioned during their previous encounter at the earl’s mansion, and followed him with a fluttering heart.

But contrary to his expectations, the lounge was empty. Earl Stacy did not specify exactly when or who would arrive—he merely asked Frederick to wait a moment.

Ironically, this only made Frederick’s heart race even more, as it implied the other party was someone so significant they didn’t need to ask for permission to keep others waiting.

Surely “that person” must be the Second Prince. Although Frederick had anticipated this, he was still nervous, moistening his dry lips with his tongue as he stared at the firmly closed door.

How long had he waited? It felt like over thirty minutes, yet not only had the Second Prince failed to appear, but no one else had come either. His tightly wound tension began to slacken, and in that gap, stray thoughts started swirling in his mind.

Among them were Lily and Harold. Lily had been so startled by Harold’s imposing entrance that her face turned pale, and without even looking back, she fled the banquet hall.

Not long after, Harold had come searching and bluntly asked about Lily’s whereabouts. Earl Stacy calmly lied to him, then watched Harold walk off in the exact opposite direction of where he’d claimed she’d gone, smiling meaningfully at his retreating figure.

“There must be something between those two I don’t know about.”

While Frederick was pondering what that might be, a knock—“tok tok”—suddenly sounded. He quickly turned back toward the door. Earl Stacy, who had been sunk deep into the sofa lost in thought, headed not for the door but toward the terrace.

Why is he going there? Frederick stared curiously at the earl’s back, then jumped to his feet in shock as the terrace door opened and a fair-haired young man with golden-red hair stepped inside.

“I—I pay my respects to His Highness, the Second Prince!”

He placed his hand over his chest and bowed formally. Darius glanced sideways at Frederick, then whispered into Earl Stacy’s ear. Judging by the earl’s increasingly stern expression, it wasn’t good news.

Did I make some mistake? Could my bow have been incorrect? Since this was his first time meeting royalty, it was entirely possible.
