An awkward silence hung in the annex parlor. Harold stood with his arms crossed, leaning against the large sunlit window, gazing outside. Austin pretended to sip tea while stealing glances at Lily seated across from him.

Unlike the two restless men, Lily calmly ate her cake. Though the cake was sweet enough to melt her tongue, her expression remained utterly unchanged. Her blank face made Austin even more uneasy, and he clicked his tongue inwardly—frankly, he’d have preferred it if she’d just gotten angry.

They never expected Liliana Benjamin to know about the Second Prince’s scheme. The revelation had caught him completely off guard, leaving him deeply flustered. Harold seemed just as surprised, so it likely wasn’t him who’d told her—yet that only made him more curious about how she found out.

“Who told you, my lady?”

Though slightly awkward to ask directly, Austin steeled himself and spoke bluntly—he simply had to know. At his question, Harold, who had been staring out the window, turned to look at him. Annoyance flickered in his slightly narrowed golden eyes, but he held his tongue, apparently just as curious.

“Frederick told me.”

After taking a sip of tea to wet her lips, Lily set her cup down on the saucer and answered. She’d deliberately delayed her reply by sipping her tea because she’d been unsure how to address Frederick.

Normally, calling him “my husband” would be correct, but since they were preparing for divorce, she no longer wanted to use that title for him.

For the same reason, she didn’t wish to call him “Frederick Benjamin” either, so after a brief hesitation, Lily simply used his given name. She knew it went against etiquette, but this small act was her way of clearly expressing how determined she was to divorce him.

Especially to the one I love.

Lily’s gaze shifted toward Harold. At that exact moment, Harold also turned to look at her, and their eyes met. Seeing his lips relax into a soft expression, Lily gave a faint smile. Thankfully, he understood my true feelings.

“If by ‘Frederick,’ you mean Viscount Benjamin, your husband?”

Lily slowly blinked at the question that shattered the mood, then turned back to the Crown Prince. Though reluctant to admit it, since it was the truth, she was about to confirm—but Harold suddenly cut in.

“I’m sorry.”
