The Duke and Duchess Maximilian, summoned to the Imperial Palace, returned home the next morning. The fact that it had taken them this long indicated the seriousness of the situation, so Hamilton intended to go see his parents to discuss a course of action.

Hamilton had assumed Harold, being clever, wouldn’t act solely out of love-blind recklessness—but he never expected this grand scheme.

“Consider this a warning—don’t lay a finger on her.”

As though reading Hamilton’s regret for not dealing with Lily sooner, Harold issued the warning.

“If you ever touch her again, I won’t hold back—even if you’re my older brother.”

The moment their eyes met—Harold’s golden irises cold and sharp—Hamilton felt goosebumps crawl across his entire body. His breath caught in his throat as if someone were choking him, leaving him no choice but to flee the room as if running for his life.
