Divorce. The moment he heard that word, Harold thought of Frederick. The reason that unlucky face came to mind was because Lily desperately wished to divorce him—had that happened, she would never have left his side.

“In about a year, that woman will divorce him too.”

That woman must be referring to Lily. Since there was no way the princess would speak of her in a positive light, Harold frowned. Though he clearly showed his displeasure, Eroida ignored it and continued.

“I’ll time my own divorce to coincide with hers, so you can go to that woman. By then, no one will interfere by saying it’s impossible like they do now. On the contrary, they’ll even urge you to remarry her quickly for the sake of securing an heir.”

So that’s why she said it wouldn’t be a bad proposal for him either. Harold gave a dry laugh and looked straight at the princess.

“I refuse.”

Eroida seemed genuinely caught off guard by his rejection this time and asked incredulously,

“Did you perhaps misunderstand what I said?”

“I understood perfectly. That’s exactly why I’m refusing.”

Though the princess stared at him as if utterly baffled, Harold cleanly ignored her and turned his gaze out the window. The street was packed with people who’d come to see the Hertha Kingdom’s delegation. Because of the crowd, their carriage could barely move, making him increasingly impatient. At this pace, running to the imperial palace himself might actually be faster.

He needed to hurry and drop the princess off at the palace, then go find Lily.

But where would he even start looking for her? She was avoiding him so thoroughly that she hadn’t even come to visit her sick mother—how could he possibly find her?

A sudden thought struck Harold like a punch to the solar plexus, twisting his expression into a grimace. His face looked so fierce that Eroida decided against speaking to him again.
