“The Viscountess Benjamin instructed me to deliver this letter to Earl Stacy.”

The butler of House Stacy, receiving the letter Harry held out, checked the seal of House Benjamin and nodded.

“And… the Viscountess said she would appreciate it if she could receive a reply from the Earl right away, if possible…”

Harry’s voice trailed off involuntarily, well aware that it was impolite for someone of lower status to immediately request or urge a reply from a superior.

The butler looked at Harry with a slightly incredulous expression, then sighed briefly and said,

“I’ll inform the Earl; wait here a moment.”

Had Harry been a noble or a guest invited to the mansion, he would have been comfortably guided to a reception room—but unfortunately, as a commoner and merely a servant, he had to wait in the hall.

Taking a spot in a corner of the hall to avoid drawing attention, Harry tapped the floor impatiently with his worn-out shoes, waiting for the butler to quickly return with either the Earl’s response or a reply. Yet, no matter how long he waited, the butler did not come back.

To make matters worse, his stomach began to ache slightly—perhaps something he’d eaten for breakfast had disagreed with him. Harry clutched his abdomen and tried his best to endure it, but as time passed, his face grew paler and his legs even began to tremble slightly.

“What’s wrong, little one?”

A passing maid, noticing his distress, asked with concern. Normally, he would have been too embarrassed to ever admit the reason, but in the face of urgent bodily need, shame had to take a step back.

“I—I need to use the restroom.”

“Oh, there’s a servants’ restroom at the end of that corridor—go ahead and use it.”

“Am I… am I really allowed to?”

“Of course.”
