Harold supported the unconscious Grace Benjamin with one arm and checked her pulse with the other. Despite having collapsed after a seizure, her pulse was steady. Her breathing was stable too, and the pallor in her face had somewhat returned to normal.

Aside from the tear tracks on her cheeks, she seemed fine—but just in case, Harold laid her on the bed and summoned a physician. He also made sure to tidy the surroundings as though nothing had happened before the physician arrived.

“I’ll be right back.”

Not long after, the same physician Harold had seen before arrived. Harold watched with arms crossed as the physician examined his wife’s condition. The physician, seemingly unnerved by Harold’s gaze, broke out in a cold sweat.

“I heard the lady suffered another seizure… If it’s not too intrusive, may I ask what happened?”

Even while extremely nervous, the physician did not neglect his duty.

“I simply told her that Viscountess Benjamin wasn’t visiting because she was unwell—and suddenly, she had a seizure.”

Though much more had happened afterward, Harold decided there was no need to say anything further and stopped right there.

“So that’s what triggered the seizure.”

The physician, unaware of the truth and knowing Grace had a history of such episodes, accepted the explanation without suspicion.

“For your information—if you didn’t already know—you must never mention Viscountess Benjamin or her late husband to the patient. You shouldn’t even use the title ‘lady’…”

As the physician listed these precautions, Harold stared silently at Grace Benjamin lying motionless on the bed. Recalling the fleeting moment when she had seemed like a mother rather than a clueless child, and remembering her words, he asked the physician,

“Don’t you use shock therapy?”

“Excuse me?”

“There’s a treatment for mental afflictions called shock therapy, isn’t there?”
