After parting ways with Lily, Harold turned back along the path he had come. If he happened to lose sight of his target, things would become extremely complicated, so his heart grew restless, and his pace quickened accordingly. Thanks to his near-running gait, he managed to spot his target, Damon.

“Sir Damon.”

Damon, who had been briskly walking while carrying a thick stack of documents, noticed Harold and glanced around, seemingly searching for Lily.

“Liliana Benjamin is not here.”

Hearing a mere bodyguard—without even noble status—casually utter the name of his employer, especially that of a noblewoman, Damon scowled deeply.

Cutting Damon off mid-sentence, Harold stepped forward and stood right before him. Though clearly smiling, his expression was far more unsettling than a glare, causing Damon to involuntarily gulp down a dry swallow. His mind screamed at him to flee immediately, yet his body refused to move even an inch—he felt precisely like prey cornered by a ruthless predator.

Accustomed to this reaction, Harold offered a faint smile and extended his hand.

“My name is Harold Brayden.”

He deliberately tilted his wrist slightly so the crest of House Brayden engraved on his cufflink would be clearly visible.

“…!”

Upon clearly recognizing the earl’s crest, Damon’s eyes widened instantly. His trembling hands could no longer support the weight of the papers, and the documents scattered in every direction.

Harold picked up one of the sheets that had fallen near Damon’s feet and handed it back to him. Damon, who had stood dazed as if struck hard on the back of the head, finally came to his senses and cautiously took the edge of the document with his still-shaking hand.
